Let me rephrase this, Dose Escort use the same military grade Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) as in the Bel STi Driver? There maybe that helps.

I doubt there is any difference in the LNA's from unit to unit.

Even if they wanted to go through the time and expense of using different LNA's in different versions of the same platform, the windshield unit would need to withstand higher temperatures than a remote mount unit.

They have to plan for lazy people letting their expensive radar detectors bake on the windshield in the hot sun.

What you say makes perfect sense. Reason I asked, was I'm curious as to why the vents? Seems to me the vents will let dust and crap in, as well as letting heat out. Being a retired Navy F-14 Avionics Tech, heat is the enemy, but so is dust, dirt, and humidity too. If the electronics are military grade, then the RL should take the heat, and cold as well as the STi does and shouldn't need the vents.

I would like to see what exactly is behind those "vents".

In order to nearly eliminate RF emissions, they have the M3 units sealed up pretty tight. (compared to "regular" radar detectors.

If I had to guess, I would say the vents' job is to look cool. Like this
