Exclamation Is it normal to have never detected laser yet after 6 months ?

I was just reading another thread on laser detection and it occurred to me that in 6 months or more and 4000-5000+ highway miles and 2000+ city miles I have YET to get my first Laser detection with my 9500ix

    Normal ?

No, not normal in FL. I'm sure you've been hit multiple times, but don't even know it yet.

^That test was done with forward facing lidar units. The likely-hood of your detector to alerting to laser is slim to none.

Get a jammer and see how many times you get shot. It's a radar detector remember, and a very poor laser detector.

After my radar ticket in 2008, I finally got fed up and started getting in to radar detectors. That is when I bought my 9500ix and started looking at these forums as a guest. The ticket I got was in June 2008, and I bought my 9500ix probably around August. It didn't go off one single time for Laser until February 2009 when I was driving to LA to visit my brother. About a few minutes after it went off, I was signing the traffic citation that the moto-chippie was giving me. Laser is nasty, isn't it?

Yes it could be perfectly normal. In over 2 years and tens of thousands of miles of miles of driving with numerous laser units targeting motorists, I've gotten only 2 laser speed warnings. I've gotten more than that from RLCs using laser triggers in my area, so my unit functions just fine.

You are generally not going to get a warning unless you are the specific vehicle that was chosen AND the LEO aims high enough to strike the detector vs your plate or headlight.

Also, if you do get a warning from your ix and you are speeding, then it's too late, they got you.
The laser detection in the radar detectors is nice, but has little, if any, practical use. You will need laser jammer.

Exactly. I've been hit twice since I put in the Laser Interceptors with a Pro Laser III. Of those two times the 9500ix only alerted on the second encounter. Depending on how they aim and where your detector is mounted the laser may not ever set off your detector.

I had the 9500ix a few months before I got the laser interceptors and I never heard the laser alert. For all I know I was targeted and the laser just did not ready the escort's sensor.

Nothing to be alarmed about.RD's barely pick up laser and when they do it is normally too late.

    Ok..all is well.

It is really rare for me to go over PSL in the car....I save that for the bike.

I may have never picked up laser because i have a vanity plate on the front of my vehicle. It's aluminum.
THAT is probably the place where I always get hit.

Would it help to have someone duplicate it for me in plastic and remove the aluminum plate?

How well does LIDAR or radar bounce off plastic?

As well as anything else. Light doesn't take density readings. It just reflects. And no, making it plastic or even removing it altogether will make zero difference. If you don't have a jammer, you have NO chance.

So Veil G4 and those special coatings do nothing? LIDAR will take a reading just as fast and accurately from a steel surface as a black pillow?
