Jury is still out. Lots of laser false alerts. Not sure why. No confidence in the detector tools software. More to come.

You should not get any false laser alerts. Something is wrong. What kind of car are you driving? Are there any LCD screens in your car? Have you tried the 9500ix in another car?
I only get falses around certain areas at night i'm not sure what sets it off probably a sign.
Yeah that's I thought it was a neon sign, scared the pants off me
the first time since I run it super loud
with the external speaker
and the li's ussually alert first I thought it was a rear shot.
Lots of random and more or less continuous laser false alerts usually is a sure sign of excessive alternator whine. This electrical noise, caused by the alternator, can affect car electronics. A cheap car audio noise filter will solve this problem. Right now you can buy Radio Shack's discontinued 10A and 15A noise filters for dirt cheap on fleabay. They are great for stopping laser falses on RDs and for getting rid of alternator whine which can be heard through a CB radio.
I really think I might have a bad unit, and Escort service is no help.
Re: Laser false alerts. I have a factory LCD from Audi, their Multiamedia Interface, and also the side pass system which should not throw off laser anything. Escort tells me it could be from lighted cell phone towers.
More concerning are two other problems: I cannot get the radar detector tools to recognize the unit on either a laptop running XP or Vista. All cables and ports are working fine. Operating systems and drivers are fully up to date. The unit is plugged in to the 12 volt adaptor of course.
Also, I get no GPS indicator on the unit ever. Once in a while it will say "Acquiring GPS signal" but still no indicator symbol on the unit. When I push the GPS filter button, it says "GPS filter is on" but the unit displays "GPS error."
Last, the unit will not let me mark a location. I have tried several times and it just won't respond.
I really hope it is the unit itself and not typical of an Escort product. This was a serious investment for me as a newbie, and I did alot of research on the Valentine, Bel, and Escort. I thought this would give me the best all around protection with alot of nice features.
Thanks all for your input.

It sounds like you might have an athermic windshield.

I'm driving a 09 Audi A4. It has factory multimedia interface and side pass system. I have lots of concerns about this unit detailed in my reply to Mem-Tek. I am sensing a concensus from this and other people I've talked to that my unit might be defective for the various reasons I listed. I'm pretty low tech but I think I'm reading the manuals etc. correctly.
