    Default Another one from Houston

    Hey yall,

Been lurking for a while, but decided to join tonight. I've been an Escort back to the original 8500, my current X50 and a 9500i that due back next week from an upgrade as an ix.

I picked up the 9500i for a really good price and after the ix upgrade I'm wondering if it would be worth selling it. It'll be an ix, but with a red display instead of the stock blue. Part of my reason I'm thinking about selling it is due to the info I've been reading about the Ka ramp issues and other things.

What do yall think? Keep the ix or sell it and stick with my trusty x50?

Welcome to the forum, go with your heart on that one. I know that there is a lot about the ramp-up but it's like anything else you will get to know it and use to it. The ix is a good radar detector and if you do alot of city driving that will do you good. I had the ix but I sold it because I wanted to get the Redline for my trip to Vegas this month.

I could have kept the ix but money was a factor for me. I couldn't see having two or three RD and going on the trip.

Most of my driving is in the Houston area typically an hour each way depending on the site I'm going to. I know most of the area's that HPD like to hang out in. I travel a little down to Corpus Christi and to Austin.

Maybe you can answer a question that the manual didn't seem to answer. When running in H does that disable all of the speed filtering like when running in A?

Welcome. What part of Houston are you from? I'd go ahead and keep the 9500ix simply because the 9500ix has everything the X50 has (same radar platform, programming options, etc) plus GPS capabilities for false alarm rejection and redlight cameras/speed trap locations.

To answer your question, H mode is highway mode and provides maximum detection range regardless of your speed. I'd keep this mode on 24/7.

Nice. Check out my profile for some pics of SLPD stealth cars. If you plan on speeding in Sugar Land, you'll definitely need a laser jammer. The motorcycle LEOs in our area love to run laser:

Yea ive seen them around. My office is in Stafford and I mainly run the south belt over to 225 and then points east. HPD on the beltway have been using laser more. I've even seen them ganging up with the 1st guy running Ka and the 2nd guy a mile away running laser.

The only ticket I've had was down 59 near Richmond and a DPS car got me. Mainly due to a jerk, who was running faster than me, pulled in front of me then slowed down. I ended up in the back and got the ticket. I was anoyed at myself cause I had forgot to turn on my X50.

Cool. If you can, it'd be great if you can report any of your cop spotting to this thread:

I know the area you're talking about. TX DPS like to lurk around there and near the Rosenberg exit. Luckily, I have yet to see any laser used in that area so a good RD will be enough.

I'll keep an eye out and post what I see. As far as a laser jammer I drive an unmarked company vehicle so I'd rather not install anything to permanent in it. Know of any units that are easy to install and remove? Also, I've seen a coating called veil that supposedly helps with laser hits. Any comments on it? I see you have it listed in your sig. I've looked at there site, but I prefer comments that are not from there site.

You could go with the Cheetah wireless system:

Cheetah Wireless Laser System Fitting Kit - Laser Jammers at Radar Busters

However, you will still have to install jammer heads onto the front of your vehicle.

Veil alone will not give you enough protection from police laser and won't save you. Veil works best when used in conjunction with a laser jammer because it helps the laser jammer by reducing highly reflective parts of your vehicle such as your license plate and headlights.
