    I like my RX65 alot, for the money it's a great RD. The tint strip will only interfere with laser. That's not a very big deal since it's only a ticket notifier with laser anyway. I keep mine behind the strip and actually turned laser detection off (the jammers do that job better anyway). Be sure to read up in here. There's lots of good info to help you polish your driving tactics.

    My config:

    X = on
    K = on
    Ka = on (usa mode)
    Ku = off (not used in usa for traffic enforcement)
    Laser = off
    POP = off
    The other two thinks that start with s are also off. one is for safety alerts and the other is for eliminating falsing caused by some kind of decoy thing that mostpeople don't have to deal with. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than getting a safety alert.

    Have fun, and stay in out of those triple digits, unless you have a really fast rabbit far in front of you.

    Welcome to the forum. I'm also new to this forum, although I've been in the auto electronics business since 1978.
    Man, I remember (pardon the old-fart-itis) having a radar detector (Fox, if I remember correctly) on my motorcycle
    when I was around that age. You'll be much better forearmed with the current breed of detectors/shifters than we
    could have imagined back then. This forum is a great example of "Never stop learning". I find new stuff every time
    I log on.

    welcome to the forum, let us know how you enjoy the RX65, that is a great detector to start out with. Don't forget to look into getting some laser jammers, there always helpful as well.

    Welcome to the forum, I have only been reading daily for a while but the amount of shear knowledge I have crammed is unreal.

    The best part about buying a medium range detector as your first, is when you get a top dog you can truly see what you got your hands on.

    My first one was a $40 no name I forget (not used for any serious speeding used it like 4 times). It would pick up x band from around 30 yards away on door openers....
    Last night I took the V1 I had and it was detecting the same door on the other side of the river lol.

    Yea. So far I think its nice. Ive only used it twice since I dont have my car (i was in an accident). Im SUPPOSED to get my car back on Wednesday...if I do then im having my detector hardwired with an aux speaker on Thurs for only $30 from an audio shop...id rather pay $30 than try to figure it out? What will I need to bring to the audio shop? The detector, the mount, the Smartcord, the aux speaker....will I need two fuse thingies? (on for the unit and one for the speaker)?

    Welcome to the forum man. May the Force be with you! I'm new here myself but not new to detectors. I just got an 8500 x50 a couple of weeks ago and I am loving it! I didn't realize the difference in detection range of RD's untill I got this one. BIG upgrade from my Whistler 1730, and that one was pretty good. Have fun with your RX65!

    Figuring out how things work is good for you, when you know how something works you can troubleshoot it's faults. Driving on autopilot without learning how the tool works and should be used is a recipe for another speeding ticket, and these audio shops don't know how RDs work either, they know how to install them to look pretty and hook up power so they turn on, but looking pretty doesn't mean your RD will be in an optimal location, and if you don't know how to hardwire yourself, you may be stuck with that location.
