Moving from Manhattan to Miami that is. Just purchased a 2011 BMW 335D and looking to install quad LIs and a passport 9500ci. Wondering how the two systems work together. If I like the install, I'll probably do the same on my 2008 Mercedes ML320.

You've chosen a good radar detector and a great jammer. From what I have read in here, jammer installs on BMW can be a bit challenging, but you are in the right place. We do also have experts in the area that can help with your install if you need it.

We do have a jammer test meet coming up on the 22nd, in case you have your LIs installed by then. PM DrCoke if you're ineterested in attending.

Welcome to the forum. good choice of countermeasures. The 9500ci is a remote mount radar detector. The antenna is mounted in the front of the car and only a small display display is shown in the car. It works just like any other radar detector in terms of alerting when a source of radar is detected. The LI's on the other hand is a laser jammer and if installed right will provide adequate protection against laser. Radar detectors do not protect u against laser but only provides u with a alert that u are going to be pulled over soon. The jammers on the other hand, jam the incoming signal and provide u sufficient time to slow down before u switch the jammer off. So that the police will get a corrected speed and will not bother you.

Welcome, you can't go wrong with the systems you have chosen. Make sure you get it tested after the install. Until you do get them tested leave the shifters on the 9500ci to receive mode only. They have been know to interfere with the LI's on some installations. Others they work in perfect harmony.

It's not like the LI's will need any help so having them in receive mode just so you can distinguish front and rear lidar hits is nice.

Welcome to the forum. You have chosen two great units. If the Bell STi R Plus comes out before your install, you may consider it in place of the 9500ci. It is the same as the ci but without the shifters and with band segmentation. Look at the Belltronics Posts for more information. In any event, you will have top of the line protection. Good luck.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have spoken to Robert at Technicar and will have the install done there. They have a gun or two to test the system post install. I am debating whether to do the LI HP install but it is $1000 more on an already expensive install. Probably it is unecessary to go HP and I would welcome any feedback. I would do the install myself (I built my own airplane) but with the move I'm long on stuff to do and short on time.

If I can get to the shop next week I may attend the upcoming test meet. Thanks for the heads up on the Bel STi-R PLUS as well. It seems it's available in Australia and if I delay, I'll look into it.

On a seperate note the new BMW 335D is a joy to drive. I also own a diesel ML320 but the BMW is clearly more sporty. The way Diesels handle power is a whole new experience since it's delivered at much lower RPMs. So you don't have to rev the heck out of the engine to produce max power. It produces a whole different feel and for me (YMMV) it's a more enjoyable driving experience. Of course it also makes it easier to speed which is why I am here
