welcome to the site that is a great detector but I would just say that the zr4 jammers might not be enough for your car
How much are you willing to pay for decent laser protection because you're going to need a Blinder M27 at least and those run $480.
In a large population center like Miami, I'm sure laser is the gun of choice especially in dense traffic.
Welcome aboard. X2 on the Zr4 shifter not being enough. Make sure your radar antenna assembly is unobstructred (not behind the grill)
Thanks. I was thinking of placing the radar reciever behind the plastic bumper on the lower left. This keeps it unobstructed (except by the bumper) and should give better reception than in the grill since its close to the ground and clear from the engine block.
Thoughts?
I share the concern about the ZR4 jammers. I don't want to spend more than the cost of a 9500ci. Would using blinder plus STR or LI plus STR be equivalent in cost? Could I bridge the performance gap with veil on the headlamps? My car is black btw.
The radar detectors you are comparing are different. The 9500ci is a high end unit that is coupled with GPS to lock out non-police radar sources.
The STi-R has very similar detect capabilities, but no GPS.
Its hard to answer your radar detector question without knowing if the GPS functionality is critical to you...I would test to see if the bumper affects detection range before I permanently mounted it there. In general you want an unobstructed view of the road (not behind anything)
However if you are primarily worried about laser jamming, know that the ZR4 is not a top performer. Veil will help, but it will likely leave you subject to punch through. You would need to get your install tested to know for sure. Review the Blinder Mx7 and the laser interceptor info on the different forums
