    Default Jammer quesiton

    What if a jammer is hit by multiple lasers? Lets say that two people are shooting laser at you, or one policeman is shooting laser at you and a second car has a jammer sending out laser pulses at you. Would your jammer get confused from the intermodulation of two signals?

    Also, is it accuate to use a rangefinder to get an estimate on the effective distance of your jammer?

    One or both of the guns would get a speed reading, unless the jammer uses a high frequency jam scheme like the old Lidatek LE-10 and LE850.

    So, if the jammer and the laser gun can't differentiate between any of the laser pulses, wouldn't a pulsing laser at a high freq defeat all laser speed measurement devices?

    Would a jammer even recognize that it is being targeted if the two signals intermodulate? The signals would seem as if they were one signal or grouped pulses at an extemely high frequency.

    We've shot side by side an LTI Ultralyte and a Stalker LIDAR.

    Both units performed within 1 mph of each other simultaneously, and never exhibited any problem determining the ballpark speed of the one vehicle.

    How a jammer would react, I have no idea.

    extremely high i believe causes jam codes. this is very bad where jammers are not legal

    I am guessing that these 2 different guns use a different pulse width, therfore no interference.

    Jimbonzzz, does that sound plausible?
    you seem to be the infrared guru, and able to list pulse rates of different guns.


    With current jammer set-ups it would be hard to guess the outcome, it depends which gun the jammer reacted to first, And then it re-transmitted that pulse rate back, Does anyone know if the jammers are "intelligent" enough to change pulse rates midstream if a rare situation like this were to ever happen?

    Current "smart" jammers could not jam two guns at once.

    Currently, if targeted by two guns at the same time, the jammers are not able to recognise the pulse rates and calculate the "window" for jamming pulses to jam two different guns at once. Although the jammer might alert and make an attempt to jam, either one gun or both would get a speed reading.

    Although they *could* technically use algorithms recognise the pulse rate of both guns, calculate the "windows", and jam both guns, such a conecpt is too advanced for currently available "smart" jammers.

    The only jammers out there that could do it are the Lidatek LE-10 and Target LE-850.

    I know of 1 jammer that can jam 2 at once, so it can be done, how it is done im not sure but I am sure over time it will be known.

    I don't see why a high pulserate laser can't jam all laser guns. Can somebody explain why this would or would not work?

    I am not concerned about being shot by two laser guns. I highly doubt that that would frequently happen unless the police specifically go after people with jammers.

    What I am concerned about is if there are two cars with jammers on the rear and the front of the cars. If a policeman fires a laser at your car and another car's jammer goes off your jammer will pick up a laser signal from both the laser gun and the second jammer which is reacting to the policeman's laser. The second car's jammer will specificly send a signal out which will fit between the "window" of the laser gun. I can see this interfering with the operation of your jammer especially if the laser coming from the second jammer is more powerful than the policeman's laser. After all, jammers are designed to interfere with laser signals.

    You are correct, a high pulse rate jammer can jam all guns. Unfortunately there are at least two problems with such an approach.

    1. It is not possible to rapidly pulse laser diodes at the rate required without burning up the diodes. Their max pw is something like 100 nanoseconds and their max duty cycle is in the 0.1% range. You can use regular ir led's but you sacrifice output power and therefore range. They also don't really like turning on and off that fast. There are however, as I understand the situation, current jammers which use exactly that approach.

    2. Continually sending output pulses at rapid rates is really easy for the guns to spot as jamming as there is a large time slot between gun pulses where the gun should not be receiving any return pulses at all. This is a big no no in states or countries which prohibit laser jammers. While it may be possible to rip down and hide your radar detector when stopped it is impossible to run to the front or back of your car to disconnect and hide the output modules.

    With respect to your concern about getting a malfunction from the rear of a car equipped with a jammer I guess that is possible. The obvious solution is don't follow cars with jammers. This is not the only possible problem. My wife's Lexus 430 has some sort of laser rangefinder which is used for automatic cruise control spacing if I remember correctly. I have no idea what pulse rate or what wavelength they use but I would guess this could also screw you once in awhile.

    Nothing is perfect.
