Default How common are jam codes?

Hypothetically speaking, of course, how common are jam codes displayed on LIDAR guns due to reasons other than a jammer?

Specifically, I'm curious about the guns used in Tennessee and Illinois (tried to search to see what equipment is used in each state but couldn't flesh it out) and how likely an LI is to arouse suspicion in those states.

That is, is it reckless to travel with an LI on in either Tennessee or Illinois? I realize that I should slow down and turn it off as soon as I'm near PSL, but is that asking for trouble any moreso than I otherwise would be by speeding in the first place?

    Thanks!

Don't know which guns they use in those states, but here's a breakdown:
UL & TS: E07 jam code is rather rare. LI shouldn't elicit it.
PL II & III: Doesn't have jam detection. They might find it suspicious if you stay jamming for too long, especially if you have front plates and they engaged you at a closer distance.
LA: Sometimes does elicit jam codes, especially when panning. LI will probably elicit a jam code
Older Stalker: Threw jam codes for a lot of things, especially strong reflections of the sun. LI would probably elicit code for this, though it might not be too strange if an officer sees one.
Newer Stalker: Haven't seen it throw a jam code yet. LI probably doesn't elicit a code with this.

LI has the least amount of jam codes

I know I've seen a list somewhere of which guns are used in which states, but I'm having a hell of a time finding it. Can anyone direct me to it?

Also, I guess my second question is how common is it for a LIDAR gun to simply be unable to lock on to a car for as long as it would take for me to slow to PSL?

Will an LEO automatically assume that something is fishy if it takes them a while to get a lock on me, and if I'm suddenly at or near PSL when they finally do?

I'm trying to figure out whether a hypothetical user ought to turn their LI off in TN and IL or if the risk of discovery is minimal enough that it isn't something to worry about.

The LI is probably your best defense against all guns so I wouldn't be too concerned about jam codes unless you drive a big white van or SUV.

This totally depends on the gun being used and the targeted distance. Each gun has totally different operating characteristics. I'd say it's fairly common for the Stalker, kind of common for the Ultralyte and not common at all for the PLIII.

Definitely not. While semi-rare, these things happen every now and again on cars with no countermeasures. I slow down quickly without mashing the brakes and dipping the nose of my car, shut them off as soon as I am close enough to the PSL to avoid a ticket and let the LEO get my speed. I've never had a problem. If done calmly and smoothly, they'll never suspect anything.

I run my jammers in an illegal area every day and have never been pulled over. My brother and I used to practice the whole laser counteraction procedure so that it becomes second nature.

    Ditto that^!

During our conversation with Officer Fritter last month he said that there were certain cars that are consistently hard to acquire speeds on. The Corvette (long considered an enforcement challenge for many reasons) was particularly difficult to get locks on. The size and shape of the car affects laser just like radar. A small angular front end does not reflect as well as a vertical flat front end. This tendency can reduce suspicion your jamming as long as you get to the PSL and shut off the jammer in short order.

Thanks, everyone! Maybe my wife won't get to drive the Tennessee leg of the trip any longer...

While hardly the same profile as a Corvette, Subaru's boxer engine allows for a fairly short and angular front end. Unfortunately, my car is also Brilliant Silver Metallic, but I plan on covering the front end up with a black bra pretty soon.

Our front grill, as well as the widely displaced fogs and the large headlamp housings, makes our front ends rather unfavorable (to us), in terms of LIDAR return.

Go out with a camera, when it's dark, and take a flash picture.

All the areas that light up? Problems.
