    Default "Smart" Jammer Concept?

I was just thinking, this has happened before so don't get alarmed. What if a laser jammer could be linked to either a GPS or a smart phone running a GPS app? Many stand alone GPS units and most smart phone apps "know" and display the PSL where you are driving. If the app were to allow you to program the jammer to only alert but not jam at speeds below the PSL, or better yet at speeds below the PSL +5 or PSL +10 the incidence of actual jamming could be greatly reduced and thus law enforcement's awareness of and opposition to jammers would be likewise reduced I should think. Maybe the time length of the jamming signal could even be linked to how far over the PSL you were going, less speed over the PSL would lead to a shorter jam time. Obviously, where jammers are illegal this would apply to an even greater degree.

Hmmm the first part makes a lot of sense....

    Better patent that!

With GPS and road info, such a hookup could jam exactly for the duration you need it, right down to PSL, whether that takes two seconds or five. That would be cool.

I understand that this has already been put together. The unit that I heard about ---yeh yeh, the old 'I heard it about from a friend of a friend..!' Also featured a system where timed speed limits (We have them around schools during morning (drop off) and afternoon (pick up) times, can be set. This system only jams when you are travelling over the PSL. I understand that it has 'similar' technology to the LI. This is only hearsay, but the source is good. I understand it was made in Korea (or thereabouts).

We have discussed this before and there are some issues with this idea.

The first being construction zones. If the unit thinks the speed limit is 65 and its actually 45.......Or if it was a construction zone and the jammer thinks the speed is 45 you may end up jamming to gun, and we dont want that.

Its difficult to update these things daily and the updates are not exact.

You are right and I was wrong on that one. What with construction zones, access ramps and such, plus the fact that the PSLs programmed into GPS devices and apps are not 100%; accurate an automated JTL (jam to limit) system would be too risky in my revised opinion.

Why does my "percent" sign come out as "%;"?

I agree with the issue of tempory reduction to PSL. It would be reasonable to think that for those areas, there is no alteration to the normal PSL. So a small amount of "common sense" may need to be included with the user directions. As I mentioned, here in Australia, we have timed speed reductions at school zones during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. These do not apply during holidays. So for the 400mtrs or so, you would have to engage the "common sense mode". Same around roadworks, and accidents. I suppose that the system would only be catering for the 99% of the time that things are normal!! One way of restricting the JTG syndrome may be to have a 5, 7 or 10 second jam, then an auto reset. Personally, I'm happy with a 5 second jam, and then a reset all the time. No need for GPS or anything else. A set of eyes, a good jammer and a degree of common sense!!!

Hey, my percent sign is also a "%" !!! What the....?
