Thread: Veil on Chrome?

    Default Veil on Chrome?

Has anyone tried putting Veil on chrome or silver vehicle logos? I have a black vw gti mkvi and I've heard the front vw logo can be a laser magnet. I'd cover it in electrical tape or something, but I think it would screw up the look of the front of the car. thanks

Try searching the forum, this was probably discussed before.

What I would do it take out the emblem and spray it with a rubberized paint called Plasti-Dip. Make sure to get the spray not the regular can and it runs about $6 in Home Depot. It gives the surface a matte black surface and it's not that reflective.

Btw, don't think that Veil will help you out that much by covering your lights and emblem with it. You still need jammers.

I searched around and couldn't find much discussion of this, I'm definitely planning on getting some LI Duals (maybe quad!?), but the expense is no joke. I guess I was hoping for a way of making the logo less reflective while keeping it silver.

...although, I saw some pictures of GTIs where the vw logo was painted black and it looked pretty hot...

in any case thanks for your help

Everyone that has tried Veil on chrome had bad results.

I've seen Veil stain even black paint. It was a chore to "unstain" it. Personally I wouldn't try it on chrome if you ever want to go back to the stock look.

As mentioned, use the Plasti Dip to paint it black.

Also, as mentioned, there is absolutely 0 need to do this before you have transceivers. Your chance of instant reading will still be 100% without them. Save your time until it's time.

It might be better to remove the logo instead of painting it black.
The debadged look is appealling to many.
And you can always put it back on if you change your mind

word, thanks guys. I think I'll take off the logo and see what it looks like, that might actually look a lot better than painting it black... especially if I don't do a good job.

I definitely wasn't going to risk putting veil on my paint, but it'd be sick if there was a product that would look nice on paint and have veil's effect.

Thanks a lot for the tips, this forum rocks!

I tried Veil on the grille of the Stealthmobile (my Buick Century), and it kept flaking off. Hence the reason I spraypainted it flat black!
