    Orange Township - UPDATE !

New enforcement vehicle spotted: late model -GREY- (Silverstone Metallic?) Chevy Impala with small dome light (akin to Code 3 "Low-Profile Halogen Mini-Bar," Whelen "Halogen Responder II" or Galls "Mini Light Bar" - its exterior appearance was totally clear) utilizing new-generation subdued lettering/graphics of VERY closely matched color to the vehicle body, with dark tinted windows all-around.

The vehicle was parked at the eastbound gateway on Harvard road, entering Orange Township from Beachwood.

I was not able to verify its use of RADAR/LIDAR. The vehicle did not operate any detectable speed measurement device at the time I came upon it.

This particular enforcement position is a posted 35 MPH zone from all surrounding roadways, and in my humble opinion, is a FAIR enforcement spot due to the roadside residences.

I am merely pointing out the very stealthy new enforcement vehicle ( Anna was unable to identify it as a police car! ).

    Be careful out there!

My baby girl is napping upstairs.

I've finished mowing the lawn and am recovering from a cold (the one she gave to me, no less! ) myself, and am just taking the afternoon easy (since tomorrow is Mother's Day) to recharge.

I'm on my laptop, in the dining room, browsing these Forums and looking out of my home's front window.

    What do I spy?

The Shaker Heights low-profile traffic-enforcement Crown Vic. 8)

My respect for the officer in this vehicle has just been exponentially raised. Honestly, I'm looking for that "thumbs-up" smiley.

There's a four-way stop sign at the front of my house. The main thoroughfare runs parallel to my front window, so I can see it, and surrounding traffic, clearly.

At least 3/4 of the usual traffic does not come to a complete stop - and that doesn't even count enforcement vehicles either from my township or neighboring.

    But guess what?

This enforcer, whose skill with instant-on Ka I already respect greatly (and note here that I have YET to post a single of his usual trap locations in this thread - because I believe that all of his chosen locations to be fair and NECESSARY public-safety enforcement areas; and because he does his job, IMveryHO, with a high degree of professionalism and without discrimination), just earned my ultimate - without anyone around "watching" him, he came to a COMPLETE stop at the sign.

Ethics is what makes you do the right thing when no-one's watching.

I now REALLY respect this officer.

^ Nah, it's just my own code of ethics/morals, that's all.

I won't betray my own beliefs.

^ Nah, I doubt that you will.

Trust me, the areas where I do not post can't even be considered "traps."

Any reasonably sane and safe driver would look at the situation and go: "gee, it's just smart not to speed here."

But if you do - well, forty-lashes for me! ops:

An Orange Township enforcer very sadly disappointed me yesterday.

I'd been cruising along at PSL, when I was alerted to a quick blip of Ka. I immediately said to Anna, in her seat in the back, to start looking for a enforcer.

At the time, there was a Jeep that was right on my tail - pretty much within a half car-length. This is close enough that had I met with any emergency situation, at-PSL of 35 MPH, there was simply no way that the Jeep would've been able to stop, without crushing my tail.

As I signaled to take the curb lane, the Jeep aggressively maneuvered to the left and into the inside lane to execute a pass ( at what sounded like its pathetic WOT ) - an Orange Township cruiser sat smack in front of us, well-hidden in the treeline of the median appx. 500 ft. down (the Jeep driver was completely oblivious, and didn't "lift" [at which point its pathetic suspension literally was seen to rock the vehicle back and forth ] until he was nearly abreast of said cruiser).

He must've been using his RADAR to monitor the stream of traffic going into the township.

I cannot, for the life of me, though, imagine what kind of shoddy practice made this particular enforcer totally MISS the clearly speeding Jeep that had been tailgating me, which pulled out and executed the aggressive passing maneuver, at what I would estimate to be easily 10+ PSL in that stretch of residential zone.

I've just lost all respect for Orange enforcers. If they're that bad at estimating speeds, they need to spend a couple of weeks with the Cleveland Heights enforcers - who won't even engage their RADAR unless they visually estimate you to be at least 3+ PSL.

    -----

If you're reading this, this message is for the enforcer (or his/her superiors) who was in the township's usual Crown Vic. Interceptor, sitting, yesterday, Tuesday, 5/20, at around 4:45 PM, facing eastbound at the Harvard "gate" into Orange, between Orange Pl. and Brainard. Shooting Ka-band.

My in-laws have been Orange residents for the past 34 years. They're law-abiding taxpayers, and active in the community.

In the back of my car, which was being tail-gated by a tall silver Jeep, was their two-year-old grand-daughter.

Open your eyes and do your job.

Help actually keep us safe, instead of focusing on your citation quota.

Updated 9/2/2008 - Orange Village apparently has the full-house when it comes to Ka-band. Saw 33.8, too.
