Default Nevada Air Force once again

They were running the LEO in the sky again, the usual spot 20 miles east of Elko, westbound I-80. If you happen to drive through there, and the weather is not bad, watch the sky for any plane under 3000 feet. If you see one, likely a LEO with a stopwatch. This is the 4th time in the last year I've passed through there see this.

Found on google maps. You can even see one of the painted timing markers in the photo.

I only wish I had a rear window LED panel that I could light up with "Warning - Airborn Speed Enforcement Ahead". I see people zip by me there, only to get snagged. Sometimes the cops just point at someone to pull over when they get the next speeder over the radio.

I think I may have driven over one in Florida the other day, it crossed all lanes (?). The one's in Nevada are hash marks on shoulder, usually spaced 200 feet apart, with about 6 of them in a row, always leading up to an on-ramp where the LEOs are queued up.

I haven't seen the markings in Nevada, but if you're driving on the highways here in FL they are pretty easy to spot (and there's a lot of them). For anyone who encounters this alot in Nevada, you should be considering getting an airplane detector (collision avoidance system). This will allow you to know when there is a plane overhead, so you know if you need to heed the markings.

The best one to have (because it will provide audio alerts) it the Surechcheck RX-110. These have been out of production for a long time, so you can only get them second hand (if you are lucky). Watch Ebay enough, and you will probably find a pilot who is upgrading to a newer system or no longer flying trying to sell theirs.

If you can't wait to get a TPAS RX-110 on Ebay, then you are looking for a PCAS, like the Zoan PCAS MRX. These will run around 500 dollars, and give more info than the TPAS. It will tell you the altitude of the plane that is being tracked, so you can weed out the airliners flying high up. The downside is thatmost PCAS systems will only give an audible alert when something is within 1000 feet of your altitude (usually they will be a little higher than that). It will still display the info on it's screen for you.

If you still want the audible alert, or you don't want to spend the money to know if a plane is above you, you can get a Cheetah C50. The C50 will alert you when you are approaching a trap, entering the trap, and leaving the trap. There is a catch though, trap locations for most states are not currently in it's database. If somebody were inclined to use google maps to find the coordinates and report them to Cheetah, then this would be an option for Nevada too.

I have done this for FL (using THX1139's list), and for VA (who is targeted by these traps even worse than we are in FL, that's bad). I actually have a thread that explains this a little more and seeks to help people who want to further the cause by doing Google recon for their own state.

Hope this helps, I hate these VASCAR traps, big time!
