Default Driving From New York to Canada

    Hey guys,

I'm driving from long island, NY up to Canada (don't know what part as of yet). My usual set up are V1 & RedLine both running together, V1 on the left of RVM, and the RL to the right of the RVM. Garmin has Trapster as well. No jammers, but I don't speed much, just love the awareness.

Any suggestions? Anything I should know?
What are my major threats up there?
Is it safe to run the RL in Canada since its illegal up there?

Im going with my in-law's and wife to visit family for the weekend. We're driving with a 2010 or 2011 Highlander. I hope it doesn't use metallic tint

    Thanks guys.

Upstate NY the Stalker dual is KING. Most of the time it's C/O 35.5 which you are very luckily about.

If you're going to run your Redline, make sure you hide it WELL. If a cop sees it, he can pull you over and confiscate your RD. You'll never get it back. Also, you don't have rights in Canada. A cop can search your car solely based on suspicion of a radar detector, so don't bring anything with you that is illegal under Canadian law.

But, can I run the RD's up until I reach Canada, then when I reach the border, take them down, and pack them away?

Also, are there any states between NY and Canada where RD's are illegal?

...unless you drive a real round about way through Virginia.

I assume since you're coming through NY, that you're visiting Ontario. The Provincial Police here run all the enforcement on the main highways, and they use almost exclusively Laser Atlanta. There are still the occasional units using K-Band outside the urban centers, but your biggest threat is definately Laser.

There's also several Airplane VASCAR sections on all the highways, but they are well signed and the markings are usually in the lane, rather than on the shoulder.

If you're heading into Quebec you'll find enforcement is a mainly Laser, with the LTI Marksmen and the Stalker.

If I were you, I would disconnect the V1 BEFORE you cross into Canada, and store it in the trunk. While it's technically still illegal just to be in the vehicle, the police cannot detect a radar detector that is turned off; and even if they somehow find it, if it's stored in the trunk they almost always leave you alone. As for the Red Line, you need to run it dark and somewhere easy to disconnect and hide it. The first thing Ontario police do when they pull a vehicle over (even one FROM Ontario) is check the Sun Visor's.. so please keep that in mind.

I drive about 30,000+ miles per year in Ontario, and have never seen or heard any reports of the Laser Ally anywhere here, so unless someone can point to a credable source for it I wouldn't worry about the rumors. Besides, if you want a real undetectable threat, the new stealth mode on the LA pwns every jammer and detector out there. I notified most of the RD and jammer manufacturers months ago, and to date no one has released a solution. *cough* *cough*

If you want to post the area you're heading in to, I can let you know the threats you'll be looking at.

You will be ok, I drive from Brooklyn NY to Montreal Canada about three times a year. I have the Bel STI and the V1 and use it in Canada but usually take down the V1 when I'm driving in Canada just to be safe. A drive from NYC to MOntreal Canada you will run into plenty of 34.7 KA and I mean PLENTYYYYYY. Every time I drive to Canada I at least run into 8 to 9 Troopers (Specially if its a sunny day) going and coming. You will be the Rabbit believe me when I tell you cars will follow you for a LONG distance. I had once guy follow me for 70 miles until I decied to slow down and use him as my rabbit. You can usually tell when someone is using a radar because they slow down just in time before you see the trooper. I have always said if you want to check out your Radar drive from NYC to anywhere in NYS or Canada you will see how good your radar really is also if you have a laser Jammer drive in NYC or Garden State parkway NOrth to test that out. A redline or a V1 or with a Bel STI R Plus you should be able to detect every Trooper with a radar, BUT the hardest frequency to pick up, that I have seen on long drives are the OFF Ramps watch out for those if you can, with this situation you will be depending only on your radar not your eyes, because by the time you see them in your rear view you are side by side them or past them.
