    I just saw this story on the news today, as they are reporting on some of the bills being introduced this year.

    I just used the state's web sites to figure out the correct name and email address for my state senator, and state representative.

    Here's what I emailed them.

    <my address and phone number>

    02/28/07 2:32 PM

    To <rep or senator's name>;

    I'm writing to you with regard to Senate bill 2228, which would punish radar
    detector owners. I feel that existing laws concerning traffic enforcement are sufficient,
    and think this additional legislation in unwarranted. Contrary to what the bill's supporters are saying,
    use of a radar detector is not soley for the purpose of speeding. I have found that use of a radar detector
    provides additional visability to law enforcement activities on the road, and provides for additional time to slow down and
    move over when encountering a law enforcement vehicle which is located on the shoulder of the road.

    If this bill or a similar one comes before you for a vote, I would urge you to not support it, and instead
    support enforcement of the existing laws.

    Thanks for your consideration, and representation,

    <my name>

    Default nicely put ed

    Nicely put edwierd. I will be contacting the NMA for all of the Florida rd users. Remember, you DO have a right to use an rd, just don't let anyone "attempt" to take away these rights. Passing such a stupid law is pointless, can't we crack down on more important things?

    And I thought it was only arkansas that had that silly law that you can't be pulled over for seat belt violations lol

    Does florida -- like arkansas -- also participate in 'click it or ticket' and illegaly enforce the seat belt law through unwarrented 'checkpoints'?

    9 states.. :roll: What a fricken retard. It's a shame that guy is a LEO because he makes LEO's look stupid and ignorant.

    As a LEO, he should know that the only state than bans detectors is Virginia.

    Actually, you guys in Florida will make out big time if they ban detectors. The cops will start using more constant on and with the penalty being a weak secondary offense, you got nothing to worry about. Here in Virginia we benefit every day from lots of constant on and some sloppy non-selective instant-on. If Florida bans detectors, most of the LEO's there will eventually end up like most of the LEO's in VA - they will become lazy with the radar. aka just turning it on and driving around or setting up to monitor with constant on. It's great using a detector in a banned area. Here in Virginia, there are only a few rare LEO's like thestampcollector that could nail your a$$ while using a detector.

    They don't have checkpoints, but they do take a couple weeks a year to enoforce the law as a primary offense.

    Alot of the places I frequent do alot of C/O, though there are some places here close to Orlando that do I/O.

    Oh well, I'll still you my jammer. They can't pull me over if they can't get my speed, right? Bleh, I might have to start running in dark mode. Too bad, I'll miss my spec mode Now how am I going to tell if it's a Crapra. I really hope this doen't pass.

    I think the 9 state figure was based on Radar Jammers / Laser Jammers.

    I just noticed it mentions nothing about laser jammers. It just says about detecting, interfering and jamming radar.

    Still, I'd rather they didn't ban RDs.

    Will contact my representative shortly.

    Is there any exemption wrote into law about enforcing it as a primary? or can everyone on click-it-or-ticket week just fight it as they weren't pulled over for a diff infraction?
