Default PA - What do officers use to catch speeders? - video

    http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/...%3F#62774610-1

There's been a lot of articles recently about the bills to allow municipal police in PA to use radar, but this one seemed a little bit unique. There's not much of an article but there's a decent length video.

In the video they show a brief view of a Robic stopwatch and an officer explaining how he uses it, and there's also some views of state troopers using radar guns.

I don't think this is the same video that was posted before - I apologize if it is.

Nice vid. I would be pissed off if I had to keep using the Acutrak all the time.

Yeah, that thing looks like a toy. I think they were designed mainly for use in athletics.

It is... the speed part is used a lot for race car competitions too, as fans can track the speed of their favorite car. It saves some of the speeds too (the best ones save up to 300 speeds, the one in the video looks like a 808 which would be 100 speeds) for laps or what have you.

With how specific the commonwealth is when it comes to what radar devices can be used, it's surprising that there's no requirements for those things. They qualify as stopwatches and as long as it's calibrated and certified, it can be used. But if you want to use the same thing in a bigger, older format (VASCAR-plus) you gotta ensure you purchase the correct one since there's restrictions on which models can be used.

After reviewing the video a few times, it looks like they're using 150 ft lines. In what appears to be a 25 mph PSL, that's not too bad of a distance. I know around here we use 100 foot lines whether the PSL is 20 mph or 45 mph, but we also have a lot of hills and lack of cross-streets where it's difficult to see beyond 100 feet sometimes. That's true for this whole surburban area for the most part.

I'm just curious, Rob, are you looking into the price or how to detect it or the unit in general?
