speeding...

gas: $45.00
finding out you only got there 27 sec. faster: priceless

its just interesting to look at all the **** we go through and we only get there between 12 sec. and 3 min. faster. you get horrible gas mileage when you speed, we bought expensive RD, and risking our lives and others, and risking a speeding ticket. its just weird to see all the things we do all for just a few seconds quicker from point "A" to point "B".
any thoughts anyone?

well, it all depends really how much you speed.......like me for example should I wanna take a roadtrip to say Houston (from my place in the DFW suburbs), its about 3-4 hours at average HW speeds of 60MPH, I make it in 75% of the time if I go at 90MPH, or in HALF the time if I go 120...............but reasonably speaking the normal person only does like 10-20 over at the most, and that wont save you too much time at all

$315 ticket....how fast were you going?!?!?!?!, my last one was 18 over (78/60PSL) LIDAR ticket and it only cost me 135 bucks

but in defense of my X50 i will say that is has save me from probably about 2 grand already, thats already subtracting the 350 I spent on it

Countermeasures are also useful to keep people paying attention and may prevent speeding ticket when casually speeding.

Also, if you are in a group of cars and everyone is speeding there is no way the LEO will be able single you out for a ticket if the counter measures are being used correctly.

And if you are taking a long trip you will shave off more than a few seconds. For example I took a trip that was supposed to take 6 hours and 14 minutus. I got there in 5 hours and 21 minutes. For the most part I was think I was only speeding about 15mph over on average. I kept a constant pace as much as possible, slowing down for multiple speed traps my countermeausure help me find and no tickets.

My point exactly!! Why all the wear and tear on yourself by constantly being concerned about whats ahead instead of just relaxing and enjoying the trip?
My older brother drove ticket free for 30 years, got a random ticket, spent big money on a radar detector, got two more tickets w/ detector and now drives like he drove for 30 years w/o the detector. He said he became a worst driver by allowing the detector to become his lookout, instead of paying attention, found himself speeding more and in more places ,and found himself to be more aggressive and impatient as a driver. He told me that he was constantly worried about getting caught speeding when he was using the detector because he felt he had to speed to justify his purchase. He also said he really didn't save much time along the roads on the east coast due to traffic but did admit that west of the Mississippi, you could save alot of time due to lite traffic. I think those places have speed limits at 70-75 or higher anyway.
Now all of this was hard for him to admit as I had told him he was making a mistake by getting pissed at the first ticket and going off half cocked and spending his money on the detector. Also, he admitted that his insurace rates did not go up for the first ticket but did on the second and third that he got after the detector when he thought he was immune to the laws.
Now this may not describe everybody but I bet alot of people can relate to his story as they have gotten pissed at getting a ticket and started the same process only to realize after the newness wears off that they don't need the detector.

He didn't use his detector correctly. He sounds like one of those people that just plugged the detector in and thought they were protected against everything and drove carefree above the limit. Plenty of people don't use detectors properly which will subject them to more tickets.

This is why detectors are legal in 49 states because the people that use them are either good drivers that speed and don't get caught often or people that don't use them proprely and get more tickets. That and instant on balance things out. The only state out of balance is VA because of the detector law........Out of balance in the detector user's favor.

I purchased my first detector a number of years ago after receiving a ticket while traveling to a store to purchase Christmas presents for my children. I was traveling on a road that seemed to support a speed limit of 40+ mph (no houses or buildings, wide and fairly rural). Leo was in a line of traffic coming towards me, clocks me, makes a u-turn and pulls me over. I got a ticket because the speed limit is 30 mph, much to my surprise (I was going 43). I was not trying to speed, I was not being unsafe, and I was doing nothing to put anyone at risk. I ended up participating in the revenue enhancing program of Salem NH. Now, I simply want to know when The Man is watching so I can be protect myself against contributing to a municipality's revenue program.

the detector are really good on long trips and those times when you just have to go fast (late for something)

i try to go between 10-20 over when there are cars ahead of me

i barely speed when i am the only one on the road

I travel from cleveland Oh to harrison oh regularly. going 10 over saves me 40 minutes each way.

I just hate going slow--A nice steady 80mph on the highway is just perfect. I never constantly go 15 over cause they can nab you for reckless driving--thats when the ticket really shoots up
