Finally Upgraded

Well I got an itch to try a better detector today and went out and purchased the X50 red version 5. Since there are no known speed trap areas around me I tested it as best I could at areas where I get lots of falses and already know the bands of the door openers. All I can say is that K band sensitivity is twice that of my previous Cobra XRS 9500. I discovered two new K band door openers on roads I have been driving every day for the past 6 months with my old detector that never flinched at them. I will be taking a 7 hour trip down to Florida next week and should be able to fully put it through its paces and test Ka band sensitivity which is rampant down there. I have been playing with the settings and am already very impressed with the adjustability of the unit. I have heard nothing but complaints about the RX65 and its self calibration error messages and was previously sold on the V1. I opted to try the X50 which gets great reviews from the members on this board and figured if I was disappointed I will return it and become a V1 Zombie. I will give you guys a synopsis of my trip and how the detector performed once I get back.

Like I've said before, I've owned the Cobra 9870, and the last trip I made to Florida, that was what I had. Most of the time, I'd be lucky to get .1 or .2 miles heads up on a Ka alert, but I got a full mile Ka alert one time in Florida. They must have been running their radar at full power and then some becasue Ka reception sucked. Either that or they were smack dab in the center of the Ka band.

The 3 big ones have the best Ka reception (V1, Escort X50 and Bel Rx60 or whatever it is)

I just got back from testing out the new detector on some police radar....all I can say is *BEEP*THIS DETECTOR ROCKS!!!!! I ran into two county sheriff's deputies sitting on opposite sides of the highway running instant on K band. The K band range on the X50 is phenominal compared to my old Corba...which will be sold or given away shortly. I used to think the Cobra was a decent detector, but it is like comparing a Porsche to a Geo. I was getting at least .5 miles warning and that was going up a hill. I also got great detection traveling the opposite direction that one of them was shooting. I went by them one too many times and they decided to try and scare me. I had just made my 5th pass and turned down a rural road to head back around when I heard them on the scanner say they were gonna check me out. Not a minute later I had one of them flying up behind me shotting constant K band. He put the lights on got on my ass for a little while then went around me flooring it and cut the lights off. Needless to say I ended my little test session, but I was more than impressed. If the X50's Ka band detection is anything like K band detection, this detector will have a permanent place on my windshield.

Indeed, it is strange, because I've owned 3 RX65s, and the first 2 had those SELF CAL and SERVICE REQUIRED errors constantly. Finally the 3rd one was okay. Never had a problem with the X50.

Is this bad hardware or bad programming in the RX65 to cause that?

What versions of the RX65's did you have...cause i haven't seen many current owners of that detector with those problems????
