I dont care WHAT youve got I/O kills all........ end of story, thats a given....... and I do know that lower models will save you, but the top end gets just that little extra that might make the difference, not only in consistency, but also in range.............. General rule is Whistler over Cobra, but it still cant stack up........ those that use low end models are fine by me, so long as they use them RIGHT
^ I agree - I/O, "on you," simply means toast. This has been proven time and again as the need to have a rabbit, or utilize proper "speeding technique" that we all talk about so much here.
Remember, guys, the OP isn't looking for a top-line detector. Based on his STATED usage needs:
(1) Doesn't speed much, and if/when he does, it's not to the point that it would *guaranty* a citation, or even less a pull-over.
(2) Doesn't need much range - he's looking mainly to avoid citations for his too-loud sound system, thus the unit is more to serve as a "police detector" (even though it is not, and we've all cautioned him as to this fact, and he understands that he must still be on the lookout for enforcers not running active speed-detection).
Certainly, with a more highly ranked/rated unit, he may be made aware of more alerts - thus increasing his chances to evade enforcement. But to this particular user, his cost-vs-risk/benefit ratio is much different from that of the typical "speedy" countermeasures enthusiast.Let's remember to keep things in-perspective.

works great! I read on here it has the same detection range as maybe 2 of the higher model, but it lacks the features of them. That said i would recommend this baby. You can't turn off X band, but it does its job.

How on earth can you have have a 1991 Mercedes Benz 190E, and a bumpin sound system.. then not afford a decent detector. Oh your parents probably paid for it all.

^^he said it out, it was like a bad engined car he got off his brother or something, parents paid like 2k for the repairs, BANG, its his 'new' Benz........ THEN he says he threw all the money he had saven into the system, leaving him almost nothing.......... gotta remember, he's still a kid... lkike me back then, I threw my cash into the system til I was almost broke.......... but I just happened to put it all in AFTER the X50 came along
I've tested out a friend's Whistler Pro-73 and it works very nicely for the money. Give it a look!

I'm still wondering why he needs one - max of 7 over the limit is pretty much safe everwhere. A detector is not going to help much with excess volume, since it is not a cop detector.

Ill give you a little background info on my parents..
My dad was military for 3 years and then cop (sheriff/DARE) for 20+ years, and body builder for the same amount of time.
Mom was also a detective for 20+ years.
Both my parents were cops.
Really, need I say more?
And I say my dad was a body builder, because when he gets mad, life is hell. If I get so much as pulled over, he'd get mad. He has that whole tough guy image going on. And working out very well for him. Hell, im an inch taller then he is, and a black belt. He still scares the **** out of me, even though I know he'd never touch me.
Thats why im going out of my way here to take precaution even though what I do is very minimal.
