I meant to order the Cryogenic Chamber option which is great for both long drives and keeping V1's in new condition.

Since I didnt, I put mine in a padded pouch and slide it into the map pocket on the door. Funny how even pulling it out from there it is hot. Does this thing have some sort of radio active material in it?

I too like Whistler CS, never had a problem but I did email and aske them some questions. They were quite responsive.

Didn't realize there was any problem with Bel. Gosh their products used to be top notch. I also had some dialog with them, although the rep sounded a bit stressed out, maybe from her last call, but she was very knowledgable and helpful and offered me an outstanding trade in offer for a new RX-65.

I've wondered that myself, why many people are so against CP, yet push belscort and thereby funding him and supporting corporate espionage.
I've been a fan of bel design for a long time as well. It is almost sad to see them join with escort and just kind of coast.
I am a big supporter of companies that go above and beyond...constantly updating and improving (like V1) or support so good they actually are involved in the enthusiast forums (Whistler). They deserve extra money for doing so IMO. I'm very happy to see whistler making a good effort to step away from the pack, and I hope they can release an even better model soon.

Bel didn't "join" Escort. Beltronics went bankrupt for the 3rd time and as they went under and it appeared that the Bel line would forever disappear, Escort Corp purchased Beltronics, lock, stock and patents.
What is the basis for the "supporting corporate espionage" statement?

The older analog V1's (3.826 and below) will not show an "E" when they go out of tune. The new V1's (3.851 and up) will show an "E" if they go out of tune or something is wrong with the unit.

For myself my first 3.851 was way out of wack. K was reporting as Ka, and the performance was terrible. After about a week I finally got an "E" and
sent it in for repair. I don't remember if it came back as 3.852 but I think it did and that one lasted about 2 / 3 weeks before I got an "E" with it.

Send this one off to repair and I remember it coming back with a new revision. It was working great until one morning I started my car, and let it warm up. I came back out from the house after a few mins, opened the door and all you could smell was the burning of electrical components. I went to grab the V1 and take it out of the car but it was to hot. But since I was in my flight suit I had my nomex gloves in my boot pocket so I was able to unhook the V1 and get it out of the car. It basically self destructed it's self. Nuked it's insides.

My last V1 was 3.861 and I was not impressed. It was getting eat alive by forward facing 34.7 so I finally sold it off and have been happy with the STi & 9500i.

As per this bogus corporate espionage, cp etc. Buying a belscort product is by no means putting any money into CP's pockets.

All of these "E" error posts still scare me because I know that I have one of the E Prone Versions. While My v1 seems to perform fine and has seen thousands of miles of road time. It still makes me wonder if my range is subpar since I have had no prior v1 experiances other than my own.

Exactly.. you would never know its out of calibration until its too late!!

I don't mind seeing a lo cal. displayed on my screen once every three years. Means its time to send in for a tune up!!

You must have had a bad unit. I pick up Stalkers from way off. One time I actually caught one from a few miles away.

I would say it was pretty good, look at the Mike B bench test thread. The 3.861 tested was mine...
