Let us know how you find the STi's range from the rear of a GATSOs.

Also remember it's not going to pick up SPECS, Truvelo, and Redspeed cameras and the new variable speed cams that'll be covering the M25 Heathrow stretch. You need a GPS detector for them.

Saw your earlier post mentioned DS2 - I haven't seen one of them used in years but I think they might still be used in a few parts of the country.

yeah certainly will allyoops , i am aware of the other cams and GPS , i have been using GPS mapping and detection since the very very early days of Sirf 1 and the first Co-pilot coupled to slow compac PDA`s

i stil have somewhere here the very first Tomtom for a PDA , which when it was released was seen as a gimick compared to Co-pilot , Co-pilot was for professionals i was told TT is just rubbish

so many features got dropped as it progressed , and such a shame the camera Dbase holders started to charge for there useage , they were always free and seen as just a another useful feature

but anyways i digress .... when the STi arrives i have a feeling it may take a bit of getting used to and also i want to intergrate it into my dash front centre away from prying eyes as hanging it from a windscreen is not something i will be doing , agreed the range will increase up by the rear view but in my car its not a possibility as there is no room and with the rake of the screen the difference is probably 9 or 10 inches ...not a vast amount

luckily i hardly ever visit the M25 but i have heard that the cameras up there are now going digital for capture rather than film , which means they will never stop shooting ... thank goodness its not my daily commute

i didnt forget this question allyoops , it just took a time for the STi to arrive then find a suitable trip to test on, which was today

Gatso detection from the rear in city mode was approx 300mtrs from the rear

approached another gatso that had a speed sign prior to it , that is also triggered by kband and the detection range to that in highway mode was about 1/2 mile , the gatso that was near to the sign seemed dead as when i passed it the STi soon fell silent which it shouldnt have , the only reason for this i guess is the camera is switched off ...only the sign works

get a few falses around town ...mainly x and k band and these are door openers and alarm systems on factory units , with the unit set to city, auto mute and the remote display installed within easy reach its no big deal

so far no plod activity mainly gatso, non the less , i love it

    Default Europe

Whatever you decide to do, just don't forget that ku band is used in Europe. The V1,Bel 995 and the Escort 9500i all have ku band detection. I believe the Bel STi can be upgraded to be able to detect ku band, but don't know the cost for the upgrade. Good luck!

i looked into KU band in the UK before i bought the STi and i found this info posted on the 24/12/2006

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ku band is a European frequency centered at 13.45 GHz, slightly above the ancient X band and well below K band (24 GHz) and Ka band (33.4 to 36.0 GHz) which together comprise nearly 95 percent of the radar guns on the road today in this country. No domestic manufacturer has ever produced a Ku-band radar and, based on recent conversations with their chief executives, none has the slightest interest in doing so.

One manufacturer in recent years did consider Ku band for European sales. Government regulatory moves in the UK have dramatically reduced the maximum permissible power output by police radar, effectively making this U.S. manufacturers' wares impossible to sell there. (Photo radar, with its ultra-low power output, and lidar (laser) remain their tools of choice for traffic enforcement.) For that reason, MPH Industries, one of the oldest U.S. radar companies, built a prototype Ku-band radar to see if it would address the European problem. After an evaluation, it was decided to use a modified Z-Series model instead. But it is a K-band unit.

V1 is only choice if you donīt want jammer. Itīs only detector what working very good against laser in Uk and Europe.

But if England banned rd in this year, police maybe start use spectre unit.
And then you need Aus/Fin mod Valentine (spectre stealth)
Bel sti is very bad in against laser.

    And Snooper gps unit.
