Default What to get a soon to be ex Cobra user...

Im looking to get a detector for my poor girlfriend who got tricked into getting a Cobra XRS-9730 soon...

I have a Whistler Pro 78 and love it, but im not sure what to get her...

She is obsessed with how her Cobra looks... and how it is decently small. I know the Cobra has ok straight on detection, but I am worried about her getting hit off axis and not having an advanced warning.

I know I shouldn't think about looks when I buy an RD, bud sadly this is going to come into the equation. Her car is silver, and the Bel Vector series matches that, and has really good performance.

    Price range, $150 max.

So basically, its come down to:

    XTR-690 Rev C - $115 + $20 to rev C = $135 (Unauthorized)
    Pros:
    Solid Detection
    Good Looks
    Matches Car
    Reliable, low chance of Service
    Customizable
The Blinking LED's will alert my GF when she booms music.
    No X City
    Compass

Bel Vector 940 - $150 (Authorized, might break so need a warranty)
    Pros:
    Smaller
    Matches her Car
    Great Detection
    Small Warranty (1 Year)
Low X City might be enough to minimize falsing annoyance?

I think either is a worthy replacement of her Cobra XRS-9730...
    Opinions anyone?

ANYthing is better than a Cobra - period. (with the exception of RMR). Looks are very deceiving Is $150 the price ceiling?

Hmmm... good point. The problem is finding it in Rev C. The cost will be $20 extra to get it Rev C'd.

It is $20 cheaper though. Does the display look okay compared to the Pro 78? The compass might be nice as well....

The XTR-690 seems like it would be perfect for her car.

display is lcd which tends to be difficult to see during day but hey i havent seen the dsplay in 6 months i am so used to audio i even keep the unit in full dark mode.

dark mode is great at night as it gives audio and stays dark so nobody behind my car can even realise i have a detector.

Hmmm... The display still is the only thing that worries me. The v940 display looks pretty bad ass in my opinion even though it is red and is very readable. The XTR-690 looks kind of bland and unpowerful. Just how readable is the XTR-690?

it is not that bad, with 940 u cant turnoff X so if X is used at your place go for 940 else 690.

i guess it depends, after a while one doesent even look at display...except fo v1 for arrows , if you do so 940 will be ok i guess.

    Default Compass

I'd think a compass incorporated into my detector would be usefull as well just for GP, but your talking about buying this for a woman. Certainly there are exceptions, but most all women I know don't think in terms of North South East West. I'd scratch that feature off the list of considerations for her.
