Of those you listed I would say the X50 and 8500, in that order.
The Bel units you listed are lower-end models than the X50 (you'd need to go to the 995, RX65 or STi to get comparable performance).
I've heard good things about the Pro 78 but Whistlers in general rate below the top-end Bel/Escort models. It may be comparable to the 940 though.

There have been numerous members of the board have about as good detection on KA on the Pro 78 as their X50 etc. If I recall one member said his Pro 78 alerted to KA about a second slower than his V1. I have a Pro 78 and a Bel 995 and will tell you on a stationary setting police officer after driving by him twice once with each detector there was only about a second difference in detection time on KA. I will also tell you since I got my Pro 78 its my everyday detector as the 995 is sitting in my office on the self as it false alarms way to much. I have got KA band detection with my Pro 78 miles before I ever see the source of the radar.
Hope this helps some.

pro 78 ka is just kick ass. the best i have seen compared to my v1.
The 940 is the same detector as the 995 as far as I can see without the options.
For the most part the 8500 is the same platform as the 995 and 940, just some different features.Originally Posted by whistler
So the performance should be the same then?
Ka detection is mind blowing on Rev C. Ka 34.7 in my opinion has over 106 db's equal 2 some of the top 5 detectors.
This test has the majority of those radar detectors that you have listed.
