I hope this never becomes reality, false positives would go through the roof.

its by GM of course it will fail, there will be old people driving all over peoples lawns and side walks with this.

what ever happened to GM's thermal night vision in the caddys?
this will come out in one model for a few years and go away just like night vision. and will cost GM more money that they will never recoup.

There's no reason to believe that would cause false alerts. All it talks about is "infrared sensors" to detect people or animals, which would be similar to night-vision cameras. It doesn't talk about infrared transmitters at all. And even if the system did use infrared transmitters, they would need to pulse at freqs between 50 and 1000 Hz to cause false alerts on our detectors.

so ageing drivers with vision problems
Make people take a vision test every two years. If you don't pass, you don't get the license back. It's pretty simple really.

"General Motors researchers are working on a windshield that combines lasers..."

Laser falses? If they use the same pulse rate then it could happen right? Could we jam people's windshields so they couldn't see?
