    Exclamation Window difference (wind shield)

Had a wee play the other day just out side my house. A cop was parked around the corner with his in car Ka radar going which in turn generated a very weak signal @ 90 degrees down by the T intersection at the end of the street by my house. At first the V1 .863 detected the cop very weakly just before I pulled into my drive so 1 bar, I then pulled the V1 from the window screen and move it out my side window to find the V1 detecting between 2 and 3 bars!! back into my car 1 bar. Then off on test test test but the same results each and every time. So my 1992 Mercedes 300E has a ship load of tint in the glass and therefore reduces my V1's detection rang. You can see how the front grill mounted detectors can have some advantage with no tint's to deal with.

Must be some sort of metallic type tint eh? Yea the grill mounted units have an edge but I'll never dish out that kind of money for one as I change rigs every two years anyway.

How old is the tint? Is it aftermarket, or factory? Or both?

When I get tinting, I definitely look specifically for that labelled as being non-metallic and radiotransluscent.

Yesterday i moved my RX75 antenna from behind my grill to down below my front plate, and without a doubt it picks up signal better and further then before.

I think alot of people would be suprised how much stock factory window tint
    may affect detector performance.

Is there a list anywhere about how different factory tint affects RDs? I know there is a sticky about windshields. Anything similar for side and rear tint?
