Angry Calgary Speed on green cameras

So Calgary is going to make all there stationary red light cameras start to be speed cameras,
will the Escort 8500 x-50 pick up the new speed settings?
here is a link on the story

The Calgary Sun - Red-light speed cameras get green light. Hated Big Brother cash cow will ding illegal drivers. Don't speed and you won't pay. Get the picture?

That really sucks. I wonder if the signal from those red light boxes be required to be stronger?

Your X50 will not alert you to these cameras. You need a 9500ix, a Cheetah product or Navalert.

    Yep.

If they are the same camera setup we have here, they work by sensors buried in the road surface.

Run a red + speeding = two tickets YaY

This is also being implemented in Edmonton:

Racing light could lead to two tickets

"The changes will allow red-light cameras to also photograph cars speeding through intersections at any time, including green lights, which means motorists could be tagged with two tickets at once if they race to beat the red."

If it can tag speeders at any time, should there be some radar source emitting from the camera? Sensors in the road can detect if a car has passed the red light, but how can it determine your speed?????? Answers please!!

No. Most of the newer speed/redlight camera setups take an extended video or delayed photo in addition. Using a counter-flash or "light reflecting" type countermeasure is unlikely to be effective for much longer as the older systems get phased out, and attempting to do so is highly noticeable and likely to end up giving you a second ticket
