    Default Speed on Green Cameras

Can radar detectors warn of the new green light cameras that have just gone into effect in my area? From what I gather, it is nothing more than a photo radar set up at these interesections. Am I wrong in assuming this?

Are these 'green light cameras' anywhere in your area?

These lights are probably in the camera database that the Escort and Cheetah products use.

I'm pretty sure the Escorts do. While driving through OH I got some "speedcam" warnings. In IL I only get Redlight warnings.

Yes, I am sure the database type technologies will notify you (if it's been identified). But I am hoping to get an understanding of the green light camera technology and verify that they are nothing more than photo radar units that send out a Ka signal that detectors can detect.

Some of them may be that way, but some of them are coils impeded in the road.

They are all in the Trinity database.

they are basically changing over the cameras inside the existing red light cameras and replacing them with new digital "speed on green" cameras.

In the Cheetah C100 and the Cheetah GPS mirror, the only thing you'll notice is that the alert changes from "red light camera" to "fixed camera" - that's all that is involved.

How do these speed on green cameras operate? Are they using radar to obtain the speed reading? For the record, the ones in our areas will do both red light camera duty as well as speed on green duty.

It's definitely not radar. I think it's actually sensors buried in the street. The one's I've seen are both, like you said.

If they use sensors in the street, does it have two sensors placed at a set distance? Then does it measure the time it takes to run over the first sensor and then the second to measure speed? If so, what if a car switches lanes and hits the second sensor before you get there?
