    Default Which one?

Alright I made a similar post in the V1 forum, but now that I'm considering other options I thought I should post it here.

I am looking at the 9500i and the V1. I do mostly city driving, the roads are not very populated when I leave work (11PM). I'm hoping to start a job in Jacksonville sometime next month though, if I get the job I will be doing a bit of interstate driving (30 miles) and going through highly populated areas. The bands that I currently run into are 34.7, 35.5 and see quite a bit of K. And it's usually I/O and C/O, not sure of any QT's. I know last time I went through Jacksonville it was all 35.5 and seemed like I/O. Most cops were sitting at the bottom of hills.

I recently bought the Whistler Pro78SE, and I liked it a lot at first, but it's quickly become a nuisance, not the noise just the random alerts. I can be in the middle of no where and I get full blast KA alert, this happened about 7 times on a 3 mile stretch of road out in the sticks.

I want my next purchase to be my last (for a while anyway), and I want it to work. I can deal with false alerts. I run the Whistler at full volume, x band on, default filter, KA MAXID, auto-quiet OFF.

I am open to other suggestions as well.

    Thanks in advance,
    John

If you are experiencing alot of I/O, then V1 is the way to go. That is only if you can deal with the "falses". The V1 is super sensitive. Escort is not as sensitive to I/O and has been known for longer reaction times to I/O. IDK if you know about the 9500 series possibly locking out real LEO threats inside the locked out false threat radius. Do a little research on it, if you haven't.

I am not dogging the escorts. They are great detectors. I have owned both the IX and the V1. I currently run the V1 now as it suits me better. (sent the IX back, because of the flaws that truelock still has) I do not want to stear this guy into the wrong direction when he gets blasted with I/O and wonder why his detector didnt go off. But that also has alot to do with the user, ie: using rabbits, etc.

Anymore questions feel free to ask. Or do a search, there have been tons of topics on 9500IX or Valentine1.

edit: I have not had any random unexplainable alerts on my V1 yet. I have owned it for about a month now. Any false alert has always been explained whether it was a door opener, cobra detector, etc.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the V1 is the way to go but I still want to do a bit more research before I drop $400.

I'd forget about the 9500i, for the small price difference get the ix. I don't understand why Escort's continuing to make the i (I'd rather see a IX in red).

I have used both and both have good features. If I were in a city area, it would be a no brainer and I'd have the 9500ix. Out here in the rural area its a tougher call. The arrows are nice and you do get used to them. Many will tell you the V1 has much more range, but my experience (3.864 vs 9500ix) doesn't support that and I'd say they are very simmilar (X, K, and 33.8)

Another issue I've read (but can't confirm from experience since I'm all 33.8) is that the Escorts are far better at 35.5 than the V1.

That said, if I can only have one detector, I'd save the money until I could get a 9500ci. The range advantage it holds is well worth the price of entry in my opinion. Hopefully I'll get my Redline next week to compare, but early results aren't looking like it'll be as good as the 9500ci. Also many are getting incredible deals on STI-R units which I would also pick over the both the V1 and ix for myself (I really like long range).

Based on the info you're giving I'd recomend the V1 since it sounds like little traffic. However, I'd run you're route first and see how many falses are on it. If its very many I'd switch my recomendation to the ix.

On my current daily route to work I've got CVS, Publix, Foodlion, and HESS. However on my ride back home from work only HESS is open so the Whistler is very quiet.

I'm usually at the PSL when I drive by my daily falses. Cops like to sit at Hess and near the Publix.

And there is NO WAY for me to buy a 9500ci. ix maybe but not a ci.

Here is the three I am now considering. STi Driver, 9500i, Valentine 1.

What's the real difference between the 9500i and ix?

IX has Blue Display (but older i's had option of blue display), autolearn, and Camera and speed trap database. This is the reason I push the ix over the i, the database I see becoming more and more important in the future.

I'd also through Redline into the mix as an option vs the STI Driver. Price is very simmilar and they are basically the same detector. I think all will agree that the Redline will at least match the STI, but there is a likelyhood the Redline may outperform the STI Driver (Escort claims it will on their forums). You can also base this choice on the tones and voice alert you like better (I prefer the female voice on Escort over the chain smoker voice on my STI). Also I see the Redline being worth more in resale than the STI, since its newer and the Escort brand tends to be thoght of as "higher end", even if it is the same detector.

If your driving at PSL in all areas will falses, that pushes me toward recomending the V1. Myself, I end up in Des Moines driving interstate with lots of strip malls just off the road. That makes my V1 about useless since its a lot of falses and I only do it every few weeks so I'm not familiar with every locations (and with the quanity, even if you did it daily, I don't think you could remember them all). Thats were the GPS lockouts really shine.

All in all, every detector on you list is good, so no matter what choice you make it will be a good one, but of course there is no "Perfect" choice since they all lack some features.

Thanks for the reply. Before I forget I want to ask one more question about the 9500ix. How does it act when theres more than one radar band?

A lot of the times with the Whistler I would get a reading, cop would pass then another warning would show. Like for example, I'm near CVS, it's showing X 2, as soon as I get away from CVS the alert changes to KA 34.7, and sure enough theres a cop within 60 yards of me.

    The 9500ix prioritizes alerts. Laser>Ka>K>X.
