Question Escort Passport 9500ix mounting and usage questions

I really would like to get a completely concealed remote detector, but the prices (~$1,500) just turn me off. I really want GPS feature, and the ability to quiet falses. The Escort 9500ix seems like it fits the bill.

If I mount a 9500ix under the visor on my Chevy Avalanche, will the GPS function OK?

Additionally, I was thinking of getting one of those pouch-type holders that attach to the visor, where you can slide the detector in and it's pretty much completely hidden. But I would like to insert the 9500ix upside down, so that I have easy access to the buttons. If I do this, can I rotate the display 180 degrees, so that it appears right side up?

    Many thanks for any help.........

You cannot rotate the screen on the 9500ix. Also I have had mine mounted high on the windsheild under the visor and the GPS still worked it just took longer to lock on. I am not sure how putting it in a pouch and turning it upside down will work. Do you drive in a state where RD's are illegal ? Most people just mount high above the RVM.

I've used a visor mount with my 9500ix on a similar vehicle. (trailblazer based Buick rainier)

The gps signal is often weak when its under the visor. I assume that's why the 9500ix doesn't come with the visor clip.
When under the visor, it takes forever for it to get the signal. I'd say 60-70 percent of the time, it doesn't acquire the gps signal. This annoys me, cause I still get the same false alerts, when out of range.

I recommend using the suction cups and mounting it on the windshield. You'll get much better gps performance. Also, since you're high up in your avalanche, you'll get excellent detection range with the 9500ix.

Also, I don't understand why you want to mount it upside down... The display will be upside down and there's really no need to access the buttons while driving. The only adjusting I do (on the actual unit) is the volume controls. You can mute and lock out signals using the smart cord button. I ALWAYS leave it in highway mode, so I never change the sensitivity. It adjusts brightness automatically...

To get the best performance out of your passport, mount it on the windshield. The 9500ix is an awesome detector. You'll love it!!!

Check out the discussion in this post on the GX65 the 9500ix brother or sister radar detector. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...nsitivity.html

Nothing beats a good try. If it doesn't work, mount it back on the windshield. You'll never know until you try. That's what I did.

Can't rotate the display and the detector wasn't designed to function upside down. Also, the GPS chip would be facing the ground and interior of the automobile if you turned the unit upside down. That would probably affect sensitivity more if you are already experiencing problems from mounting under the visor. When I mounted under the visor right side up, the GPS chip was still facing up towards the sky.
