I was caught break-checking a long time ago in Virginia - on I-95 through Richmond. About 4:30am on a long road trip, dark out, very few cars on the road. Kinda half-asleep, in my old little world...

Out of nowhere I get a FULL blast of Ka, scared the shat out of me, and out of instinct I hit the brakes. Big no no. Turns out a Trooper was cruising behind me triggering moving instant on. As soon as he saw those brake lights, it was over. I got pulled over and got a $100 fine for using a detector, but no speeding ticket.

Lesson learned - DON'T hit the brakes in VA

I never hit the brakes if my detector goes full alert instantly. If it is instant on for speed measuring purposes, no need to brake they already got you. If it is to check for detectors you are done if you hit the brakes. I have experienced this type of "detector check" once in VA, so I'm sure the LEO's do this every once in awhile.
Ya'll all had good points. Thanks. Just trying to figure out how to hide a corded RD. I guess I will need to hardwire it near the top of the windsheild.
