wilson 5000 with midland handheld ??

i have a midland handheld but i get crappy range (like zero) inside the car..if i put a wilson 5000 next to the rear stop light on my suv (i.e. stick it to the bumper with the mag mount) will i get better range ? i can run the wire thru the rear door hatch i think.
is it a problem to slightly obscure the rear brake light on a vehicle with an antenna ??

I can guarantee you will get a million times the range with a Wilson 5000 antenna. Those handheld radios with the antennas provided are, in my opinion, WORTHLESS. However, you might have to worry about a high SWR reading just mounting it to a bumper. This depends on the area of the bumper you're planning on mounting it on. If it isn't a good enough ground plane, you will end up with a high SWR and if you run a radio for too long on a high SWR, you WILL burn out your finals rendering your radio worthless. That being said it would still be worth a shot and if it doesn't work just mount the damn thing on the roof! Case Closed.
