    1. It's a good entry level scanner, made by Uniden for RS. Has no digital nor-700 mhz band so it may not work for you after the rebanding. Read the thread on rebanding in these forums.

    2. Un-do two thumb screws, unplug power and antenna

    3. Comes with a mount, will need to be hardwired, or possibly can run it off a cigarette lighter plug.

    4. yes

So let me ask you guys a question... If you get pulled over by the cops for some reason and they find this scanner on your car. What are the penalties for having one in your car? What will the cop think?

It varies by state. Here is a link (2 years old though) with some info:
    U.S. Scanner Laws

If you are concerned about a specific state, it might be best to search that state's specific scanner laws.

I didn't know that you could get "certified" to have a scanner in your vehicle. Many states and municipalities outlaw scanners for all but cops, firefighters, and ambulance crew. If you have a HAM radio license you're also exempt by federal law. Does the law in your area specifically exclude Coasties? Or does it say something like "any emergency personnel" are exempt?

Actually, most places do not outlaw scanners in cars, but you need to read what the law says in your area. You shouldn't assume that just because you're in the Coast Guard that it's legal for you.

Also, the scanner you have will probably do for you, but first responders in your area (I'm assuming that's what you want to listen to) may be using or might soon upgrade to digital in which case you'll need something more sophisticated. And if they are also encrypting their communications you won't be able to hear them at all. Unless you have permission from the local authorities, any attempt (or successes) at trying to decrypt the signal is illegal.

Let us know how things go with it. Good luck and have fun.
