    Default New scanner setup..

OK, I'm thinking about running my BCT15 for scanning 800 channels and running a cheap Uniden 350 to scan conventional freqs. (Yea, there are still a lot in use down here)

That way I could have a dedicated 800mhz antenna and a dedicated VHF antenna.

I'll have to measure to see if the area I have will fit a Uniden 520, a BCT 15 and a Uniden 350. I'll also probably go with 3 NMO lip mounts along the edge of the trunk lid. CB, VHF and UHF.

    Any input?

You mean they're not all on the CB the same as you like Smokey and the Bandit?

Well the ideal is one radio per channel you want to monitor. So between state county and local, that's three, with two scanners here's how I'd do it. Antenna to frequency is ideal per radio. This is why cops end up with so many radios and antennas on their cars.

So you'd obviously have the CB for 19.

Then I'd probably setup one radio with a dedicated VHF antenna for GSP, concede knowing who was talking and use listening skills to determine the whereabouts of which dispatch is talking. So this would be the 350's sole purpose (or if you're going to be in and out of the Atlanta 4 county area go get another 164 or the mobile sized equivalent or get another 15 to note the PL tones to determine dispatch center and keep uniformity of controls between scanners).

Then I'd take the 15 and put in another VHF or wide-band scanner antenna and program in all the area Sheriff Channels, and put in some GPS info so you're only listing to the county you're in plus ~20-30mi then go ahead and add the local townships with heavy traffic enforcement notability.

It seems like from where I glanced at you're dealing with mainly VHF systems with only 1 or 2 800mhz systems. So I'd take the receptions minor sacrifice with the larger antenna. PM me some county names if you want some more details.

Right now I'm in a location where I'd prefer 3 scanners with VHF systems, and in two years it's going to be 3 scanners on 800mhz P25 systems, or I'd be on board with grabbing up some cheap scanners and doing something similar.

Get one of the low profile 800Mhz antennas and put it on your car then everyone will think you're a LEO lol

There are some "decent" tri-band glassmount antennae out there. Do it all with one antenna and a duplexer

Yea, I'm running a glass mount now and I'm just wanting to "step-up" a bit.

Glass mounts are okay, but they pale in comparison with trunk/roof antennas.

The glass mounts are really only good about 500mhz, where the RF waves are short enough to A easily penetrate the glass, B don't suffer significant loss in the pass thru elements.

Some people hate antennae. I think of them as badges of honor

I have 4 on my rear deck now
