Default What I don't like about my V1

So I'm back to my V1 after putting it in storage since March while testing out my 8500 x50 and 9500i. I like those two units but they have their own little flaws. But they (esp the 9500i) have a point. And it's the number one V1 problem, false alerts.

Never really got false alerts using the 9500i. My car drives quitely. With the 9500i I could drive all day and never hear a peep, sometimes all week. If it went off, there must be a cop around. I got so used to the quiet that I almost forget it was there.

Now that I'm back to the V1, it beeps everywhere in big L mode. When I'm on the phone, it goes off and annoys the caller; all the time. When I pull up to Target or at a store, it's beeping like crazy and my passengers laugh and say "there's a cop in the parking lot?" Every time I start my car I have to listen to the obnoxious startup tone (I forget if there is a way to disable). I get too many Ka false alerts which is stupid and I don't understand why after I press MUTE when the signal strenght is half-way, the V1 will die down to no bars and go silent, only to start beeping again. I have to press MUTE maybe 3 times while sitting at the same stop light. And all those bogeys.....cmon. Anyway, my last gripe is I have to keep V1 at max loud otherwise I wouldn't hear it with window down, stereo on, etc. I'm thinking about turning the volume down low and taking my chances because the V1 is so so annoying it's distracting my driving. I almost want to go back to an inferior detector just for some peace and quiet.

FYI, I've had and used the V1 for about 4 or 5 years now, I've had various radar detectors (mostly Cincinnati Microwave products) since 1985 and currently in Kansas, traffic law enforcement is all but non-existant in the KC metro area. There's barely any rolling radar (cops are always stationary), half of them use laser and I might be lucky to see a traffic cop in clocking position maybe once every other week. And once a month, the motorcycle. They don't do much in the way of radar around here, it's pretty tame.

so anyway, if i cannot get use to my v1 again, i will sell it or put it away again. and i won't buy another v1 until they either reduce the false alarms or they innovate with some sort of gps like the 9500i (which is working quite well for my specific needs). i'd like to use a premium detector with arrows and the ultimate sensitivity even if i don't need all that (here in ks) but running with the v1 is almost like having an infant in the backseat. i fiddle with it more than i do the stereo. ugh! :x

Perhaps you should try programming it to automute K band. Mine is very quiet now when it comes to door openers.

oh and i also forget, these false laser alerts are quite annoying because they are loud and you never get used to them. most of time i can spot the false source and it's not a car's headlights or taillights or an [airport] neon sign.....not the usual. but stupid stuff like shiny construction signs.

i get false laser alerts on the v1 about 2-3 times a week. and i get the J-junk alert about 3-5 times a week. This amounts to more alerts than i get with real K and real Ka cop radar.

    annoying.

I feel your pain, same reason I own a STi & 9500i. V1 drove me crazy.

Just got my 3.858 back a week ago from a repair trip to VR. It went into the dreaded "E" display and would not reset. Turns out it was a short in one of the circuit boards. Anywho, VR definitely did something with the filtering in the big L mode. It now has a higher threshold to K band door openers and X band red light sensors. I am very pleased with this. The unit still performs the same in the other two modes, it'll pick up the red light sensors from a mile away! Anyway my .02 is I like the way it works now better than ever. (So does me wifey) Advanced logic rules in the city!

no false alerts here..... Ka band is 99.99999 to 100 % always an officer of the law.

K falses rarely... if it does false, i know the area and what is causing the brief alert.

X band is off so no worries there...

    3.813, the best ever.
