Default changing high/low beam reboots V1

well this thing didnt happen in my car. i tried it today first time on the motorcycle .
it's getting crazy sometimes. i thought and still suspect the cigarette outlet power maybe dont fit well with the V1 ,
but on the end of the ride , i just played with the front light. and noticed that when i'm on idle , or engine off. and swapping between high and low. it will reboot every time !

maybe there multiple issues here, bad connection and V1 doesn't work well when it's around 12V ?

one thing for sure , the 8500-X50 didnt do that. it was connected to the same outlet and worked just fine !

i would say the V1 probably couldn't tolerate the voltage drop/fluctuation from switching between hi/low beams.

could try running a voltmeter and see what it says on the cig plug while doing it..

thanks ..this is what i suspect , and i will check it tomorrow. but i doubt it will show a drop. probably need a scope for that.
but the X50 had no problems with that...

Hmm, my STI Driver and GPS unit would randomly reboot (well GPS would keep popping up the "Continue on battery?" question) in the crappy 2004 ford ranger, sometimes the radio would shut itself off and the clock would reset to 12:00am while driving, and it wasn't about a week later I was broke down on the side of the road with a bad alternator. It was fixed, and a week later my manager broke down in the same truck with the same problem...Do run a voltmeter on the leads to see what the problem may be, you might need to put some form of a capacitor in the lines to help with the massive drop of voltage, EE's chime in if I'm wrong, not sure if a capacitor will help with voltage or not. Or get a beefier battery put in :P As for why the X50 has no problems with this I'm not sure, I'm also not sure why the X50 never alerted to laser when the officer was aiming for the only car on the road...ME! *shrugs*

This may be a great set up for someone who gets alot of J outs...

Whenever you get a bad J, flick the high beams to reset the unit

Sorry I can't provide any help, I'm useless on electrical systems in the vehicle's.

You beat me to it! My V1 would reboot while braking and about two weeks later the alternator in my '96 Grand Prix GTP died and it had to be towed to the dealer. A large value power supply capacitor will help too. VR put one in my V1 so it would quit rebooting, even though I still had the bad alternator LOL!

So get your alternator checked before you break down on the road.

    thanks for advices !

but honestly i doubt anything wrong with my bike. it has only 12k miles on it
and it's really in mint condition.
i just don't think motorcycle produce the same steady voltage like a car. and if the V1 is sensitive to this it will show. just my feeling.

i will try today to hook it up directly to the battery and i will do the test again.
And i will try to do the same thing in my car. engine off and playing with lights or any other loads and see what happens.

The Ford ranger had only 37k on it when it died from what I remember...granted it is a ford...but still, you never know :P
