So what does the temperature compensator actually do, and what is it for? I know that it, well, compensates temperature, lol, but why is this needed. How does it do this? Does my V1 have a mini keg cooler inside of it? Oh, I could use another beer. Thanks for the replies everyone!

No, I think it's a different implementation of what Escort calls Self Calibration -- the detector checks and adjusts the frequencies of its oscillators, which can vary due to temperature and other factors.

If it's unable to tune itself, it'll throw an E and let you know something is wrong.

It's good to know it's got that now. I'd always find myself driving along looking at the V1 wondering, "Is it working right?"

It was added in the 3.851 and higher firmware versions.

Does the digital temp compensator always scan? Or only at bootup? ...in other words...will cranking the heater up full blast after the V1 has been freezing all night throw the compensator for a curve?

From what I understand the compensator is an always-on tuning feature that should keep your V1 in tune during all operating time without the need to reboot the unit on temp change.
