    Default NEW:: V1 Hidden Display

    I stumbled upon this idea, but I wanted to get the colored Hidden Display mounted inside the mirror.

    I never liked that much because it is not hidden. yeah no one can see it when the car is off, but it lights up like a Christmas tree when your car is on and everyone behind you can see it. When I think of a hidden display I think about something that only I can see. Also if you want a colored display PM and I can help you out.

    Not exactly new, anymore.

    Search around a bit, you'll find that this option has been available for quite some time.

    Also, various ways of "embedding" the unit's factory remote display have been undertaken by many. REBinc and puzzled show off two of the most common types of such, and if you searched around a bit, you'll see plenty of others, too.

    Additionally, the StealthOne integration of the V1's display functions into various BMW/Audi vehicle information systems is possible, as-is using professor [i]jimbonzzz[/b]'s SoftwareOne emulator, to embed with your CarPuter/UltraMobile or laptop.

    What's the point?? You will be spending $$ to get your detector's info display moved FURTHER out of your sight...

    The concealed display is designed to be just that - concealed. This mirror unit more clearly displays your info to the traffic becind you - the exact opposite of what you want. Mount it low and it YOUR line of sight.

    Sorry if that seemed harsh, just seems like a waste of money...

    Wasting money is some peoples hobby

    I have noticed on all BMW's I have seen they have a read out in exactly that same spot. Obviously its for temperature or something, but I would never of guessed it could be RD remote display for a RD if I didn't know better.

    I like the mirror display but not for windshield mounted V1s. The best setup is what some custom Mercedes and BMW's have done integrating the V1 into the rear window shelf. There was an M3 that had the V1 completely hidden in the center brake light assembly and the arrows were integrated with some custom software into the NAV unit. Now that was stealth

    I have a similar mirror setup but I agree with most of the posters here. The main point of the concealed display is to get the lights out of view of people driving behind you. Putting the display in the mirror does not accomplish this (with an auto dimming mirror it does dim when people pull up behind you and it is a bit harder to see but its still there) The main reason I put my CD in the mirror is I wanted a hidden V1 (on the rear shelf) for theft protection and also because I was tired of having to take the V1 down every time I parked the car. I was not concerned with other drivers seeing the lights. If you are going to run the V1 on the windshield there is no real reason I can see to have a CD in the mirror. All you are really accomplishing is moving the lights a few inches to the side. No real benefit in that.

    All that being said I think you were initially asking if you could get the mirror display with the colored LED's. This could easily be done and is something I wish I would have done to mine at the time of install. I may take it apart and do that mod in the future.

    Ya that is pretty sweet. So are the BMW (and newer MB) installs where the V1 comes thru on the factory dashboard readouts.
