What risk do I run by programming out X-band?

You guys who know alot about radar detectors, and the V1 in particular.... Where I live, I get a ton of X band falsing due to alot of buildings and their x band signals. My question is: today, are there any police departments which are making use of X band speed detection technology? That is, if I program my V1 to ignore all X band signals, will I be running the risk of ignoring some valid Cop signals as well? I have mine set on Full Logic (Big L), and believe me, it doesnt help much.. Driving around town, im constantly falsing on X.. I false on some K also, but I could live with that amount.. Please advise.. Thanks.

The obvious risk is getting a ticket froma cop using X band

For K band false, I just programmed the V1 to mute for 30 seconds... until it reaches 4 bars then it un-mutes

Before we can give you a definitive answer, we need to know about where you live because x band is in use in some areas, but not at all in others.

In my area there's only one type of cop that uses X.

It's one county away and it's a Durango or something. I've spotted him twice. I believe there is only one or two county police using this band, but that risk alone is worth keeping X on.

Little "L" will keep it quiet for you. I keep my muted volume level at well... complete mute. Consealed display by your speedo makes the question - "aren't you worried about an additional threat after you mute it in little l mode?!?" not worth worrying about.

I shut my X off months ago, I guess some cops still use it in Illinois, never came accorss it. Mostly KA and a little K. 8)

Are there any New York staters out there, or folks who know about it? The only time I hear x is when im driving through town, where its all building generated.. I just dont want to turn it off, and then find out on the parkway im getting zapped for real.

Further, what about POP.. what band does pop transmit on? Is there any danger that if we program our detectors to ignore X, we'll also be ignoring pop?

This thread lists what bands are used on the HIGHWAYs in the USA:

NYSP doesn't use X according to the list. They use everything else though (K, Ka, POP, Laser). However, make sure to turn X on if you venture into New Jersey, as X is still the #1 band used by the NJSP.

POP operates on Ka, or K, depending on the gun being used. There is no such thing as X POP.

Great Answer.. very helpful.. No reason not to program it off unles Im in NJ... To you guys answering, '(by turning x band off) .. you run the risk of getting a ticket', NO KIDDING! :roll: Clearly, the thread was asking 'how much risk'.. learn to read between the lines, and stop being so Literal!! :shock:

The risk you run is that you will make some podunk town cop's day! He will be able to brag to other cops that he bagged a V1 with his 20 year old K-55! Ugh! I would almost rather drive the speed limit every time I get an X band false alarm than let that happen!
