    Default Valentine 1 3.872 - 200 mile Trip. Dissappointed

    Hello,

I just received my 3.872 after having previously sold my 3.864. I embarked on a 200+ mile journey to visit my family to let the detector stretch it's legs. The performance has been so poor that I'm considering returning the unit and getting a 9500ix. Let me know what you guys think.

Unit is hardwired high above RVM and was in A Mode, X Off, Pop Off.

Scenario 1) Radar emitting construction sign (K Band). Last year my 3.864 would pick this sign up midway through cresting a hill, then lock to full blast alert for at least 10-15 seconds. New detector started alerting MUCH later -- the sign was already in sight and not that far away. Detector never really went to full blast, and if it did, it was only for a second.

Possible explanation??? Radar signal got weak over this 10 month period? Any ideas?

Scenario 2) While cruising hard in the left lane and going down a hill, I got a single Ka Band blip. I got in the right lane, and then get a full blast Ka, followed by laser...???? Then silent. I then see the LEO. He had his window down and his car was parked perpendicular to the road (in a really bad position to clock cars with radar), so I'm guessing it's possible he was shooting laser out the window --- but why the Ka? He then pulled the car over that was behind me, and continued blasting Ka band. As I was driving away and the rear detection signal strength was at 4, the bogey counter ghosted and said it detected 2 sources of radar

    What happened here???

Scenario 3) While driving very fast on a two way road up a hill (65 mph), I got an alert (Ka c/o). About 6 seconds later I see an Leo traveling the opposite direction, stuck behind a car and riding it's bumper. He was probably going about 40. 6 seconds of detection time seems really weak for a straight shot c/o Ka band, no?

Scenario 4) Caught a laser shot right in the mouth, ha. 15 Over. Good thing I was in ATL or I probably would have been fried. That's not even considering speeding out there. It was late though. He fired directly at me for sure and it was a close encounter. I probably wasn't more than 500 feet from him at the time of the shot. I realize a lot of you will say I'm lucky to have even picked it up, but the .864 always picked up too. Both v1's have picked up every laser encounter I've ever had.

When your bogey counter went to 2 it's because cops also use dual rAdar front and bAck and they run at different frequencies, even my 9500ix detects two signals when I'm colose.

Scenario # 2 sounds like he rotated his radar antenna 90 degrees to the left and had the radar on.

Then all he has to do is grab his LiDAR gun and there you have it, 2 threats at once.

For laser and ka detection t the same time, I've gotten that before. Sometimes leos accidentally leave their radar on while shooting laser

Radar Signs are not reliable i have found for testing unless you pass the same one all the time. All it takes is a road crew to move the sign left or right or hit the dangling radar head, which happened around me, and now it has next to no signal

This has been discussed, radar laser combo most likely

This one needs a bit more description. If you are going up a hill getting a signal before the LEO crests the hill coming down towards you, thats pretty good. You are not going to get much of a signal before he is pointing at you, also with him riding someone's ass its going to weaken the signal quite a bit.

Scenario 4) Caught a laser shot right in the mouth, ha. 15 Over. Good thing I was in ATL or I probably would have been fried. That's not even considering speeding out there. It was late though. Laser is a crapshoot there is no reason to even dwell on if it did or didnt pick up a direct shot because if it did pick up a direct shot you are nailed and if it missed a direct shot you are also nailed. You can maybe hope for scatter but thats just that, hope. Get an LI or a blinder if you have that many laser encounters.

I have read situations where a LEO will first obtain a radar reading then confirm with a laser strike. Makes for a bullet-proof ticket. Maybe the situation in scenario 2. Traffic could have played a role in scenario 1.
