    Default Letter to VR

    Dear Sir/Madam

In future firmware releases would it be possible to programme the V1 to be able to have a “US” Ka 34.70 GHz +-1300 MHz and a Euro K band 24.125 GHz +-100 MHz to run at the same time.. The reason I ask this is for flexibility. In my country the police run 34.7 stalkers and 35.5 talons, recently they have become very cunning and introduced the Australian made redflex K band camera. This is the only K band law enforcement radar in my country. While the V1(.863) has not too much of a problem detecting this camera in US mode, in testing the Euro mode really does a much better job and of course while in this mode it misers 34.7 GHz and above. Thank you for your consideration.
best regards one die hard V1 fan forever

    Steve

It's a totally costless change to make it Spectre immune. I really don't understand why they don't.

Okay, not costless in R&D, but costless in production.

The current method of Spectre immunity for RDs either disables X band or requires a different X band horn / circuit. So it will actually cost more.

That said, the main costs are probably one time (R&D, manufacturing line, and patent litigation )

Currently, I believe the V1 has an LNA only for X-Band, while K/Ka are handled passively. If they really wanted to implement Spectre immunity and do it right, they would probably need to add an LNA for K/Ka like the STi has. The higher-freq LNA would probably be one of the most expensive components inside the unit. Food for thought.

    I hope not!

VR has had a patent for a long time on using preamplification with a single mixer, so they should be good to go as long as they keep a single mixer.

Hmmm... wonder why the STi uses two mixers?

Very interesting. I always thought the STi only had an LNA for X (for spectre immunity), and a highpass waveguide (for spectre immunity) for the K/Ka horn (with the LO at a lower harmonic). Something like the spectre-proof horn extensions for the V1.

In a few years, cheap CMOS LNAs will move up into the 30GHz range. Maybe then will VR finally consider a spectre proof V1

Sorry to change the subject but I got a reply.

    Dear Sir:

    Thanks for your email.

We appreciate your taking the time to write to us regarding potential
modifications to Ka and K bands for European use.

I'll pass this on to our software engineers for future consideration.

    Thanks again for writing.

    Cordially,

    Pete Kaufman

Oh well I couldn't expect more more I guess
