Default Bypass switch for CD. Two wires?

I just installed a concealed display in my Z....
    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...play-350z.html

I want to be able to switch back and forth between the CD and the display on the V1.

I went to radio shack and could only find switches that will break two of the leads on the four wire cord.

I am thinking I could wire the 12V and Ground two the switch and leave the mute and data lines always connected.

    Anyone tried this?

You might also try wiring a double-pole switch in series with the data line and +12V leading to the CD. When the switch is open, the V1 will use its internal display and the CD will be un-powered; when the switch is closed, The V1 will see the pull-up on the data line from the CD, blanking the V1's internal display, and the CD will have power.

In any case, there's no need to put a switch in series with both the +12V and ground wires; the +12V lead alone is enough to stop the flow of current to the unit; interrupting the ground path also is just overkill.

I went ahead ant tried using the switch for 12V and ground....

    It works!

I can now use the V1's display or the concealed display, at the flip of a switch.

Any reason why you wouldn't want to use the CD all the time?

Yeah, I don't want to have to leave the door on the center console open 24/7.

I just installed the CD because the V1 seems way bright at night.
