    Default Tips for Reading V1

    Hey Everyone,

I'm not 100% sure if there is a post that addresses this but I was just curious as to what my fellow V1 users do in order to help differentiating between a real LEO and a false. I've barely had my V1 for a week, and I just recently drove to vegas with the V1. I picked up 6 LEO's but for some oddball reason they were ALL on the other side of the road. Was this just a coincidence? I'll be leaving for home today and will report whether or not I actually find some LEO's on my side of the street. What does the V1 typically do when dealing with a real LEO. Does the location stay constant on an LEO or is it normal for the V1 to lose signal and then pick it up again?

Check out some videos on youtube and do some reading. Then realize the only TRUE way to get to know your V1 is by using it. I have had mine for 2 years now and don't even need to look at the display (well maybe to ensure it is only one bogey). You hear it and learn what sounds like a cop and what doesn't.

The only time the V1 will "lose signal and then pick it up again" is when the cop is running I/O (instant on) and you are catching scatter from him shooting other cars and then turning it off. Normally with C/O the ramp up of the V1 is known to be great.

You need to watch some videos and learn the basics of traffic radar, this will enable you to understand how the V1 works.

There are several good videos on youtube, do a search for LEOENFORCEMENT.

There are also several books on the subject and you can google "how traffic radar works".

Did you also read the V1 manual?

Yep. Check out my videos beneath my signature to see the V-1 in action and learn! Plus this forum/thread is very informational in itself.

I have had my V1 for a while now and still have no idea what its telling me unless i look closely at it. Give it time, like any good product there is a learning curve.

Visualize the radar. It comes out of the gun in roughly a cone shape, and can either go straight or get blocked or reflected from there.

The police shoot straight down the road, so as long as your detector has a relatively clear "view" of the signal it should get progressively stronger as you get closer to it. You can also estimate how close you are to the source. For example, if you're coming over a hill and the alert has stayed weak for a few seconds, don't be surprised if you crest the hill and it suddenly increases in strength. But if you're on a straight road then you're probably pretty far from the source.

False alerts from door openers and such are usually generated by devices pointing straight down toward the ground, so you're basically just picking up reflections. The alert usually comes on at a certain strength and doesn't deviate much from it unless you get really close to the source, which is usually obvious by then (CVS, grocery store, etc).

Also, multiple signals that get picked up within a few seconds are usually false alerts. Every automatic door has at least two sensors, the inside one and the outside one, and the V1 will usually dutifully report all of them.

After you've used a detector enough you get a feel for what's going on. Just think about why it's alerting the way it is, and you can predict what's going on the next time it acts the same way.

Pay attention to how falses versus police radar tend to ramp while you're getting used to using your V1.
