Question How long do you expect your V1 to remain an effective detector?

I'm a newbie so hopefully you can pardon my ignorance and the wide open nature of my question.

How long do you expect your V1 to remain an effective detector? More specifically:
    1. How long does it take for them to wear out from normal use? I'm not talking about being abused but just from hours of use and number of uses.
    2. How long do you think it will be before it becomes obsolete as far as the types of speed detection equipment that it can detect?

To narrow my question down a bit, this assumes that I buy the detector new now and don't update it.

Unless they get a new band for radar, which is unlikely with lidar on the scene, V1 is good to go. No way to tell how long any electronic device will last, some longer than others. Next generation of RD are all going to be combined with some sort of GPS.

Keep it tuned up and it should last a while.

mean the current V1 won't detect this?

Have had mine for over 7 years now and no issues yet. A lot of saves though.

Well I was just reading a thread about Radaractive. Pretty new app that runs droid type phones tied to a V1, which is kinda GPS interactive. Seems to be similar to Trapster. You can google it. V1 has no GPS capabilities as it is now. I think only Escort 9500ci, 9500ix, Sti-R plus and Whistler 3600 have GPS. Some one correct this if wrong please.

I predict that mine will last until the end of the world; you know, 2012. Not too far away.
