I have a 690 and have never seen a PULSE alert even with I/O. I leave POP off. Does POP have to be enabled to display PULSE?

No you don't need POP on. A pulse alert is when the detector receives an instant blast from a radar signal with a signal strength of 7 or higher.

I only see a PULSE alert 1-2 times a year !

As stated, PULSE is displayed whenever the detector suddenly receives an alert at signal 7 or higher on any band. It's meant to be the most urgent radar warning possible, when you are likely being hit with selective instant-on. It can be also caused by junk detectors, where you have been filtering it out at close range then suddenly the filter misses it, letting in a full-strength Ka alert for a split second.

come to think of it, I saw pulse alerts on my old 1743 but never on my Pro 78....


Then again, I have never been blasted by I/O where I did not have an advanced warning

My 73 has displayed a PULSE alert only ONCE the whole time I've had it and yes it was a legit I/O encounter but last week when I passed by a LEO and got hit with I/O K band full strength, no PULSE alert just a K band alert showing max strength

PULSE is only eligible if you have not gotten any alerts for the past 20 seconds... If you passed another false location recently, you won't see PULSE.

I think I remember reading somewhere that it only displays "pulse" after being quiet for 10 or so seconds.
So if you're driving and the detector catches pieces of radar off the people in front of you, and then say you get shot right on with I/O, it won't say pulse because it had been going off before.
But, if you're cruising on the highway and haven't had an alert for 10 seconds and you get a signal at 7 or higher, you get the pulse alert.

I will try to remember tomorrow to have fun with my X and K transmitters to see if I can get my Pro78 to display Pulse.

I'll blast my XTR-690 with IO K band and it wont show pulse, so if that doesn't cause it then I don't know what will?
