This is what I have learn in my years of driving with a radar detector. Upstate NY Troopers use 34.7 guns and some use lasers in NYC it is all about Laser (very OUT OF CONTROL) and 34.7 freq. State Troopers on Long Island uses 34.7. Is there a better range with this Band Segment ??? or probably the same range of just having 2/5/8 on ??

I'm wondering if you justr leave band segmentation 5 on is the detection greater ??? oorrr does not make a difference.
Turning RDR off has the single greatest impact on improved performance, but without segmenting you would get plenty of Ka falsing. With every Ka segment you turn off you also eliminate 200 MHZ of bandwidth that the detector spends time sweeping........that obviously helps too.

Most of the recent comparison tests have the RedLine set up to sweep all three of the popular Ka frequencies (33.8, 34.7 and 35.5) and RDR OFF. With segments 1,3,4,6,7,9, and 10 off that is almost 2,000 MHZ of bandwidth eliminated and the RedLine achieves 1st in class detection performance amongst all windshield mounts. The more you turn off the better it gets but with only 3 segments enabled you are very near the limits of improved performance.

I would forgo that extra little bit and keep enough segments on to ensure adequate coverage. However, if you are sure 33.8 is not used in your area (as I am), then turning off segment 2 virtually eliminates all Ka falses. Segment 1 is actually the most polluted area of the bandwidth as most falses show up at 33.6xx but segment 2 is the next most polluted area for Ka junk.

I think I'm going to change the band segmentation to 5/6/8 since I live in NYC and do not expect to receive any 33.8 freq detection. The false alerts from cobras 33.6 is annoying enough for me to change the segmentation. The only weird thing is when i use to own a Bel STIR, I NEVER EVER RECEIVE ANY FALSE ALERTS FROM COBRAS. This is the reason why I find it so weird to receive so many on the Redline with Band segmentation on. All in all I will only turn on band segment 2 if I'm in New Jersey, other than that, I will just leave it off.

If anyone knows of someone that is selling the old STIR, I'm very interested in B&ying it ??

33.6xx falsing is also extremely rare on the RedLine with rdr enabled. Turning RDR off improves radar performance but also lets in these 33.xxx falses if you are running with segs 1 or 2 enabled. Most show up in seg 1 but they also will appear in seg 2.

I don't know why I'm so scared to turn off 33.8 in NYC. I have never receive a freq that is 33.7 in NYC, but why do I have a feeling some where some how they use it somewhere.

Does anyone that live in NYC or Long Island have ever had a detection Freq 33.8 ??

Does this make the Redline detection even better since I'm turing off another Band and will only have on 5/8 instead of having 2/5/8 ?

A week ago I decided to pick it up a little bit on the highway 85 MPH (Just three passengers cars were around) out of no where a alittle alert from 33.7 (assuming this was a Leo with just a out of tune radar) I slow down just a bit. I drive past the three cars that were driving slow than all of sudden out of know where full blast radar alert of 33.7 once I drove a few more feet away from the three cars Redline went silent. After this incident I realize that someone in the three cars must of had a cheap cobar radar detector. My point to my story is with a full blast detection from the Redline scared me and I thought I was getting a ticket until I use my eyes and saw that the Freq was 33.7.

This is happening to much so I will probably turn off band 2 and keep on 5/8. I have to admit once I turn off band 2, when I drive pass a LEO I will always assume two things is the Leo radar off or is he running 33.8. When I have band segment 2 on with 5/8 I never have to worry about anything and I can say to myself "OK he just has his radar off or he is using Lidar".
