Bel RX65 BRAND NEW - / Mercedes CL55 AMG -- NOT A DAMN PEEP!

Please help!! I had various Bel radar detectors and I have been very happy with them through the years. In fact, many saves from LEOS and when I saw the RX65 I decided to get it given my previous experience.

Well, so I get the unit, I read the book, plug it in and have been driving for 2 weeks now and NOT a damn peep out of the thing. NO electronic door openors (good) no leos setting it off (coming at me, coming behind me, passing them on the side of the road) NOT GOOD.

I also have a school zone with x band radar generated slow down signs that flash and my old Bel would go nuts a mile down the road, with the RX65 I passed the sign and it peeped a x band note for about 1 second.

WHAT'S GOING ON???? I mean com'on I love the elimination of false signals, etc. but there is gotta be something wrong here. My old Bel would go off and then 30 seconds later I would pass a leo or a leo would be coming behind me or etc. This thing I could crash into the police station and I doubt if it would even go off.

I also think I passed a photo radar van yesterday and I only hear a one tiny bleep and when I looked up to see what amazing event had set of this stealth detector it didn't show anything.

What can I do ????

Yes, I purchased it off of Ebay from a user with 2000 positive feedback .. yes 100% positive feedback. It came brand new sealed in a box with all stickers and serial numbers attached.

The worst part is I gave my old Bel 9500 to a friend and I'm driving a 500+ hp car with no protection ... it's ridiculous.

Please advise.

You drive an AMG yet you cheaped out and bought a detector off of ebay. Suck it up and buy a retail unit and quit complaining.

I also bought about 30K of electronic equipment (not a single issue with anything) off of Ebay and my other Bell I purchased off of Ebay and it worked great ... and Hell, I found my AMG from a local dealer who .. yes put it on Ebay.

Again, the unit was brand new, sealed, all manufactures stickers, id numbers etc. including Bel's 800 numbers are on the unit.

I don't think the issue is Ebay ... I also have already emailed the person I bought it from and asked for a replacement.

The question at hand is .... has anyone else experienced this kind of silence from their unit and is it abnormal for it to be like this.

It assuredly is abnormal, your detector is messed up.

Though, your Benz probably has a metallic athermic layer in the windscreen which would nearly eliminate the ability of the detector to work, and if you've only passed low-strengh door openers and stuff it might be blocking them completely. You should have a kind of "port" in the windshield for the RD (think the BMW 7 has that), or you may not. In that case, time to buy a car that doesn't suck so much :mrgreen:

If this is the case you should try going to stores where there are automatic door openers or back to that school/speed size that you mentioned. Open the window and hold the detector out it and see if it makes a difference.

Also, you can try calling Bel and asking them if the serial on your unit is valid.

Jesus, guys .. so now it's the Benz's fault. Frankly I rather go slow or get nailed doing 120 mph in a my CL vs. having to drive a Kia and having a detector that works.

ok im going to go to the automatic door at the local Albertsons open my driver side window and hold the unit out the window and if it still don't go off then we got a problem yes?

stay tuned ... I doubt if the CL has some kind of space age metal that doesn't let radar detectors work .. can they be that stupid to design a car that does 200mph but can't use a radar detector in it?

It's not a space age metal, or maybe it is a space age metal, the space age was 40 years ago

Look at the windshield for some markings, does it say anything about "athermic" or "heat blocking" or something like that? Does the owner's manual mention anything about radar detectors? Does it really go 200 or does it poop out at 155 :?

it actually hits just over 200 mph though 150 scares you enough (the limitor was removed) and it has a $12,000 chip air/exhaust updgrade. 575HP / 660 torque

it's a beast .. but I'm off to the store right now to do the inside / outside test with the RX65

The only bad part is if it is really the windshield what the heck do I do then ?? NO I'M NOT SELLING THE CAR!

All is not lost. You can always get a remote.

Just be glad you don't have the Distronic cruise control! You don't have that do you?
