last week on my way to orlando on the tpike, got a ticket for $188.50. My XTR 220 went off when i was practically right next to the leo.... i need to change rd... considering pro 78 or vect 955.. any insights? Also how good is the XTR?... it saved me a couple of times... but this hurts..

xtr 220 is descent for slower, regular road speeds. I had something similar, xtr 500, and it saved me a couple times on 25 mph roads. When going 80-90mph you need something that gives an earlier warning. I saw that the pro 78 wasn't much more than the xtr 500 so i returned it and bought a pro 78. I couldn't be any happier. There is a speed sign near my house where i get about 4-5 times the distance compared to my xtr 500. If you can afford it i'd def go with the pro78. vect 955 is also good and many say it has a little more distance, but whistlers customer service makes up for it. I sent my RD for a update and they did it the day they received it. Very pleased with pro 78.

Have you eliminated the possibility that the cop was using IO? If that's the case you can't really blame the detector. The XTR-220 is weak on Ka band and marginal at best... the XTR-690 is much better on Ka and offers plenty of protection, the Bel 940 is even better on Ka, though the XTR-690 is more feature-rich and has a manufacturer that's continuously improving the unit.

xtr 690 and pro 78 are identical in detection. 690 just has a compass and volt meter. whereas the pro 78 has a better lcd screen, auto dimming.

the belt will have better detection on Ka band only(not that much). It costs a little more

The Pro78/690 will have nice features like the flashing lcds
they will also have the dominating customer service
these two rd are getting better as whistler is continuing to release new updates. The newest being Rev C which increases range by 1-2 dB (12%)
