Default Question about cop detection close by

    Hey,
So I just had this small question.
I purchased my Bel RX65 not too long ago, has been great ever since. I was recently driving on a 40mph road and there was a cop stationed to my right in a driveway of a house, facing at a maybe 45-degree angle from me. Ever since I saw him, my radar only gave me 2 bars of K-Band and I got closer it became less and then when i was perpendicular to him it was nothing. I'm guessing that's because the radar was obviously at an angle.
    Anyway,
I was just wondering why if I was directly in the light of sight of the radar, I only got max 2 bars of kBand?
    Thanks

If you saw Ka, it would be a different story. However, it is completely possible that the cop was doing I/O or not even using a radar set at all. the k can easily be explained by a garage door opener, as mentioned above.

Today I was able to do some non-scientific testing with a LEO. (unaware of what I was doing) I pulled into a parking lot and right next door (200') LEO was using Radar C/O K band. I was parked perpendicular to him facing the same direction. 9500ix was silent until I rotated it 10 degrees towards the LEO. Full Alert. Aimed right at LEO and Full Alert. Kept rotating towards rear of LEO and at about 20 degrees towards the rear went silent. The next step I used my RX65. Exact same results. The point is that if the LEO you encountered was shooting K band your RX 65 would have went off especially right in front of him. He was probably using I/O or just being there is a deterent for speeders.

Remember that a radar detector is not a Cop detector. I good detector will only alert to the presence of a single-- K, Ka or laser. No single, no detection.
