For non-commercial drivers there is only one state that bans detectors, Virginia. They are also banned in Washington DC but technically DC is not a state. They are also banned on US military bases.

You have to take every review on the internet with a grain or three of salt. He probably had the d@mn thing right on the windshield. Similar story on here not too long ago by someone in Canada. Again, not real believable.

I know for a FACT a few years ago a LEO for VA pulled someone over with an STI Driver because the LEO DETECTED it with their spectre. The STI Driver must been a defective leaky unit that made it through QC. In other words no unit is perfect and shyt happens

It isn't detectable using current RDDs. It is a visual identification. I've seen cops do some odd things...I even watched one shoot himself in the leg once. I think a few will use visual identification and justify its findings with electronic detection for the very reason you are here, which is to question if it really works and cause you to not use it in VA. As said, your speed which is slower than traffic also screams detector. They know in most areas but unless it is DC/VA/certain Federal areas, they canot do much about it. The design of the detector shields it, and so its lack of 'emissions' makes detection almost impossibile given the way that the Spectre works.

I've heard stories about VA LEOs confiscating or smashing them, but I have no idea if it is true. It probably is as you always have a few people who make their own rules, such as confiscating drugs and then using or selling them...unfortunately, that one person in a million who does that then makes the other 999,999 look bad as well.

The "option" was to either take the ticket or crush the rd under the wheel of the vehicle. Note option 1 was more cost effective at least back then. No idea what the fine is now. I didn't hear of confiscations. Passed thru there hundreds of times.
