Maybe he was just playing you?

A current-generation Mustang GT will run to 60 in well under 6 seconds, even from a relatively non-aggressive "street-start."

He could simply have been trying to get a rise out of you; seeing if he can get you to sprint, and hope that there was an enforcer near-by - which, in my book (even though I don't approve of street-racing), is still quite a mean-spirited and nasty thing to do to another driver.

BTW, I'm not trying to belittle your ride. I fully appreciate the work you've put into yours, and as a fellow "self-wrencher," I very much respect the fact that you've done all of the work on your car. I'm just trying to point out that, objectively, there was very little chance that a current-generation Mustang GT should have trailed you to the 60 mark.

He followed a car length or two behind, and you heard his engine revs were extremely high...

And when I stopped at 75, he continued until he hit about 90 or so.

^ I would then imagine that he didn't know how to shift - and later-on committed the "loser's fly-by" that's nearly always indicative of an amateur.

That could have been it, and he even challenged me again down the road...

Got up to 65 though before calling it quits, we were on the street right after the town, where it opened up to a 55..

I was a good length or two ahead... But, like somone else said, I dont like these people thinking they own the roads..

Although, a lancer did challenge me on the highway once, got up and over 130 and I passed him, I guess he had a governor...

No one else was on the road, otherwise I wouldnt have done it.

^ Or heck, maybe he was a "Domestic Rice" V6 that was dressed as a GT? With the right exhaust and intake systems, they can still sound quite mean, from both ends.

Perhaps that's it - as he likely thought you were easy pickings, only to find out otherwise.

I'm not sure what the Lancers are governed to, but that would be a good guess - most of the "family cars" to have come out within the last few years have had very conservative governors, mainly as a precaution against overzealous owners exceeding the capabilities of the tires that those cars roll off the factory floor with.
